I'm redoing the rear opening window surrounds at the moment,i've got black trim already but the alloy is corroding & blistering the paint.

Wet n dry differing grades to get through the paint, then a quick rub with 400 grade paper , prime once then 3 coats of satin black. :D

Cheers parksie!

Do you know if its just the case of tearing off the chrome thats there and then painting as suggested?

Flat the shiney chrome finish, it should then look dull, do use a finer grade to remove any scratches but not super smooth, because you need a bit of grip for the primer, i'm no expert but it works for me :D

Alrite mate!

I take it you've used the tape before! so you can just peel if off if required and use again- thats good to know - on ebay its 12.50 which aint much to lose on an experiment!

as soon as it touches the chrome it sticks,so you have more or less get it right first time,it is a bit fiddly so take you time and you should get a good result

just make sure there is no small lumps bumps ect. no need to flaten chrome to a dull finish,as it will stick to the shinney stuff

how many rolls do you think would be needed to do the 2 sides of a 3door E30?

is it not just insulation tape then?
