I have just been offered a chance to own a BMW 540I E34 LREG and its at the right price.Do i give my convertible away for nothing and get the 540i or do i hold on to 325i and switch ebay off.286 BHP WOW thats some power and in luxury. The only thing is i have spent alot of money on getting her right top end rebuild Ԛ£1200 and then i would need a real quick sale which i dont think will happen as the sun is not shinning.I guess will have to buy lucky dip again.

No... 540i's were manual too... my old man had a 6 speed manual... what a machine.
I think when I get a little longer in the tooth, I'll be having a 540i for sure... lovely machines. I'd rather have one than a 325i convertible. Make sure the block is okay... early V8's had the Nikasil (sp) problems...
Giles.

get the 540i-tis a most serene and pleasant modern conveyance (also a lot less likely to leak in the rain
)
the 530i is quick and the 540i is awesome, mind you i like the e30 cabs, but i like my cars big and lazy, and 4.0v8 is plenty lazy!
is the 540 not cheap enough so you could keep the cab, and only use it for summer/weekends?!

beware some early 540's suffered from the dreaded nicasil problems, check out the compression first.
good luck whichever way you go

they have got to be fun with a manual! my neighbour had one if that helps.............. Isn't the 4.4 a better engine and no nikasil issue either?

Early 4.4's had the same problem too...
Gotta be after '96 or something... can't quite remember...
Make an AWSOME E30 conversion though... he he!

It all started with that 535i i bought last weekend it on an h plate low miles what a drive just a big lazy cruiser with plenty power when you need it.I dont think i would part with the 318IS so easy to drive very light great car.I just cant seem to bond with the convertible dont get me wrong its a great car but after spending so much money on her just left a sour taste in my mouth. The gauges really piss me off as i dont have a gas gauge and i dont think its suited for this country its just not me i cant see my self driving round in summer with the hood down and people looking and thinking what a posser.
I also wish it was a auto find it very hard to drive IS 100% better must be getting old.I can just see myself in a 540i wafting round in a beast with 286bhp.Anybody for a cheap convertible.

go on then you got me interested, how much do you want for the 325?
if you need to make a move on the 540, I'm looking to get back into an E30, just looking for the right one?
where are you?
any chance of some pics of it?
cheers

Hey simon finger getting on my nerves now been on hoist duty for weeks now.Still got 2 pins in when they are due to come out i dont know. Was supposed to go for xrays and check up last thursday but as you know you can spend awhole day in hospital so there is little chance of getting back to work, no work no pay and of course i have not got a claim[lol].I am due again this thursday more xrays then hopefully pull the pins so that i can get back on the tools.
Going to take pics on my phone when they take bandges off finger looks real gross with to bits of wire sticking out i nearly got sick looking at it the last time they changed dressing. Will host for all to see
