I filled up with petrol last night, and I noticed after a couple of miles that it was smelling a bit inside the car.
As I got out, I noticed the smell again, at the rear drivers quarter.

I went to the car this morning after leaving it all night, and I noticed as I opened the drivers door that it still smells. Surely it should have evaporated over night?

Is it easy to get to see where the petrol may be sitting?

Prtrol smell shouldn't get inside the car, whatever, but pull up the rear seat cushion and unscrew the fuel pump access plate on the right hand side. "O" ring seal for the pump may have split.

Thanks Brian, I got home and took the cover off the Fuel Pump so I could have a look and there was quite a bit of petrol. I had also noticed on the way home that when I break, the smell was worse.
Had a look at the pump, and the rubber pipe into the Tank from the filler was completely perished and split. New one on order, but how do I get to the other end?

The big pipe you can see under the fuel pump cover is the main vent pipe, not the filler pipe. it goes through the metal tube on the right hand side of the rear seat base, under a cover bolted to the inner of the rear right wheel arch, and connects to a stub pipe comung off the metal part of the filler pipe near the filler cap. Hidden behind the wheelarch half liner.

So it goes back to the filler Pipe then, I ordered the part from the dealers, Originally they said £110, but then stated that if it is the rubber pipe to the inspection panel then it is £12, I ordered that.

How long would it take to change the pipe?

Filler pipe goes into tank just in front of where the right rear suspension trailing arm pivots on the subframe.

my car stunk of petrol before. but found out what it was when i snapped the head off my rusty filler pipe! might be something to do with the cabs because it was so badly corroded at just this point of the pipe. pull the rubber surround out from around the top of the filler and have a look.
