Just a quick snap of the 2.7 block freshly back from the machine shop, cost a bomb but I'm glad I got them to assemble it, there's enough assembling to do now to put me off an engine conversion for a long time

Still, not long now - can be seen in the flesh at the next Lakeside meet!

Thanks to E30Adam for all his hard work in the stripping and building processes of both my own car and the donor car, this would without a doubt not be happening without him! Big up to Ant and everyone else who has answered any questions I may have asked

Seeing as you asked so nicely :pff: lol

Mahle pistons, 325i head which has been refaced and welded in places (money's tight but I can't help being a perfectionist! - not cracked I hasten to add btw!), contemplating a 6 branch in the coming months, Dbilas 282/272 camshaft.

Ooh! How much were the pistons?

I'm debating whether to get a new set for the turbo or keep the originals as the machine shop reckon they're about Ԛ£90 each! :(

The machine shop reconditioned the pistons, better than what they were and by the looks of things close to what new ones are like just a fraction of the price.

On the exhaust subject I been meaning to ask you about your Hayward & Scott zorst, I will be running the system that's off the donor car, which I think is Boysen as it looks like new and is at least mild steel..haven't cleaned it yet!

can you re hone a bore? what exactly did the machine shop do?
The only way you can recondition a piston is by fitting new rings?

I'm just curious not having a dig!

Yeah, you can have a bore re-honed. Mine's being / been done ready for the weekend :)

Now for the great debate, 2.7 N/A, or 2.5 Twin Turbo? :)

Now, when people say Lakeside, are they talking the darts championship place?

Lakeside is a shopping centre near dartford where we have a big e30 meetup

as for 2.7n/a or 2.5tt, it has to be 2.5 turbo for sure!!!!! 2.7n/a wouldnt be able to touch it for power

ive heard of single turbo conversions but never twin turbo ones..... twin would be awesome-zero turbo lag

The pistons have been cleaned, any rough edges taken off, the surfaces smoothed and new rings fitted.

The bores have been rehoned which HAS to be done to allow the new rings to bed in properly. This is a proper conversion, no expense spared. You don't wanna see the machine shop bill.

I do my dad does all that sort of sh!t.

Turbo Brown i'm only round the corner wouldn't mind having a "peep" when your building either of those engine ideas. Is there enough room for twin turbo's?!

Just echoing what Adam said and what I meant by welding was there was a few areas of the head that were looking very worn/tired which I had welded to get it near the condition of a new head - there were no cracks, just edges that had faded away.

Hey guys are there any good 2.7 build diary sites on the net? I seem to remember some mentioned but can't remember them.
Cheers, I'm sorry to be repetative :x
