Is the BMW connectors ISO.
Does this mean I can just buy any head unit and it will plug straight in or will I need a converter.
I have an Alpine head unit at the moment and want an MP3 one now.
If you know of one going cheap let me know.
I have JBL components (5.25" and door tweeters plus 6x9's in the rear)
Cheers

if you got alpine i assume it willbe iso..however it depends on whether you last fitter used iso or not he may have just connected all the wires the only way to find out is to pull out the current unit and look

right.. if its iso..then wen u take ur head unit out ull see sum cables
if its iso then there wil be ablack connector visible and you will be able to unplug ur current unit and pull it out.
if howevr its been hardwired u will see all the cables connected to each other with bullet connectors or sumik like that..

When I remove the head unit all the wires go into one white plastic block which plugs directly into the head unit. Does this mean it is ISO?rchadha wrote:right.. if its iso..then wen u take ur head unit out ull see sum cables

does the block go directly into the apline unit...or are there two interconnecting blocks.
if the blocks are interconnecting then its iso if its not and the white plug goes directly into the alpine then its hardwired

no...you canbuy a universal iso adapter.
once youve bought th adapter...
cut the wires away from the old head unit connect up the adapter and you will be able to put in any head unit..
a car sound shop willdo this for 25-30 quid or get the adapter bout ttenner and DIY it

The white plug that goes into the head unit is removable so why do I need to cut the wires?

beacuse i presume that the white plug is apline specific and will limit your choice of head unit to alpine
