right as many of you know i have a touring.. not a lot of choices regarding places to put speakers but im in the progress of building a 6x9 shelf with built in sub enclosure... im opting for "infinity's now all around with 5.25's at the front 6x9's at the back and a nice 10" sub.. nothing to major but loud enough. question is could anyone please help me with which model 5.25's, 6x9's and sub are the best quality and cyrstal clearness? winkeye

thanks everyone :D

Most important thing with speakers is........ Listen before you buy!!!!!!!

They've only gotta please your ears, so if you hear some infinity's and they sound good to you, then your sorted!!

Find a dealer who can demo the infinity's and a couple of other brands for a similar price - you'd be amazed at how diferrent speakers the same price can sound!!

I had infitity component front speakers in my old car for a while - excellent speakers at a decent price ( you can pick them up for 60 notes on ebay)

as far as subs go - for that sort of money id look at an alpine type r then spend the rest on a 4 channel amp to run the sub and speakers

no mate rears are 10cm ....................CRAP!

gonna whip all of the old shite out and install fresh babys's 13cm at front i think... may do the mod to allow bigger.... rears totally undecided but im thinking sub deffor and maybe something a bit punchy instead of the 6x9's now... full range speakers still but i may opt for a more rounder speaker rather than oval?? dunno :P

Twiggy,

You would be better off spending more on a good set of front components and not having any rear speakers at all (apart from the sub). If installed and setup correclty, the front speakers will give a much better sound. If the budget allows, you will get a big improvement running the components off a separate amplifier as well.

Cheers,

Ian.

For around £150 I would be looking at something like these:

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product ... 15bb1b4559

I know it's more than you were looking to spend, but I really would recommend an amplifier. You can get some real bargains on eBay and as long as you buy a decent make you should be fine with a used one.

Somthing like a Genesis Profile 2 would match those nicely and sound superb.

Good advice Ian, if it was me i would just buy the best components, sub and amp you can afford.

If money is tight concentrate on the amp and components with a cheaper sub.

Genesis are one of the best amplifier makers around so you cant go wrong with that if the budget will stretch (JL audio are also amazing)

1 last thing, dont forget to allow for decent cables and some sort of sound proofing (dynamat etc) to reduce panel vibrations

As above really mate, good components mated to a good amp would kick the shit out of a coaxal / 6x9 / sub combo for the same money for sound quality.

My mates got an old set of infinity 6" components in his golf and they are really shit hot even though there running off his headunit.

Honestly mate, dont bother with a sub, IMO decent componets will produce plenty of bass without drowning out everything else. Unless thats what you like ....

seconded indeed! well worth doing, a cheap second hand 2x50 or 2-75 watt amp for tweets, and a 100x2 -200x2 amp for mids, running them like that without the passive cross over will sound much much better, go second hand and ull save a bomb! especially if u not too bothered about the looks of your system you can get yourself some Old skool amps which do the job very well indeed for very cheap, 20 odd quid, (infact i have a old skool 2x75 watt kenwood amp back in the day when kenwood were up there! )

if you can id actually consider getting 6"-6.5" mids up front make some mdf pods or something, will be worth it imo. second hand component set, decent like, prob 70 for what was originally a 140 set etc.. and tbh just check out the buyer if he/she seems alright then they prob havnt been trashed.

go with a 12" sub, again i dont personalyl see anything wrong with second hand gear, as long as you know its from a good owner.

scrap the 6x9s.. though if u want u can have my pheonix gold ones for dirt! i dont want them, they sounded good. though its not my cup of tea tbh. they came with car! lol

just for example i recently sold a 4channal amp (4x50@4ohm) for 80 quid. originally cost me 140. nothign wrong with it at all! bridged to give 150x2@4ohm.

genesis on ebay seems to be going for very very decent money! not for the seller! but for the buyer! i was looking into getting a genny set up,, though i want something with more joose! though the quality of genny amps really do show through, a genny watt is more reliable then other cheaper brand wich claim to give out more watts.

and their british winkeye

those kenwoods won't sound bad pete if they are installed with care but i reckon you're much better off getting quality used kit for your money. time spent hunting down some focals, jl audios, genesis or similar will not be regretted. the mass market japanese kit usch as the kenwoods you've picked out above are just that - mass market. you can do better....

if you're worried about them being damaged then take along a portable setup and test them before parting with any money and you'll have peace of mind too.

Wouldnt trust em, he gives three ratings Peak Power, Rated input power and maximum input power. All of which mean bollocks all! RMS is the only rating you should go by. Im being fussy though, they look pretty decent for 50 squid. Give em a go!
