hi, a friend of mine recently bought a bmw e30 convertible (1989) and to me it looks like an early motorsport edition, de-chromed, indigo blue hood, silver grey leather, no m-tech kit, leather door cards, 15" bbs wheels....blah, blah blah.
it doesnt have an electric or hydro electric roof (its manual) but wasnt sure if these come standard on the early motorsport edition convertibles, and as the colour looks very much like macau blue (oviously the biggist hint that it could be a motorsport edition) i thought i would chech the paint code sticker.... however, it only has the 'BMW-SONDERLACK' sticker, which i know means 'special paint' do you think this would be because of the fact that macau wasnt a standard (non m3) e30 colour? or is it something different?
there is a number 2 121 364 but i have the feeling this may be a sticker part number, as some research on the internet seems to point to 2 121 364 being.... violet blue, cinnemon red, samoa blue, and sebring grey???
any help in finding the correct colour would be handy, as the local dealer, based on the chassis number isnt able to help.....
thanks
BMW INDIVIDUAL PAINT

Sorry mate, are you trying to find out if the car is a motorsport or what color it is?
To find out if she is a Motorsport , i would just go to the dealers and do a search on the cars chassis, that would tell you where it came from, what the car came with etc.
But from your description of the car,it doesn't sound like a motorsport (they had bubble leather, mtech kit etc), your friends car sounds like a cab that was ordered with some individual bits.
hope this helps....

Not all Msports had the Mtech kit. The early one's didn't. I use to think they all came with it too. Same goes for the bubble leather. Just ring your local dealer with the Reg and they will tell you in second if it's a Msport or not. That's what i did before i bought mine

I'm pretty sure all Motorsports came with an power roof as standard? My Motorsport is a 1989 edition [without the Mtech2 kit], and look at the seats with the M colours in the corners. Does your mates cab have leather over all the centre consol [around the hand-brake, gear-stick etc etc]? If not then it definetly aint a Motorsport.
The best thing to do though is just call a BMW dealer, give them the reg and they will get you the original spec - which will include the Motorsport code, if in fact it is a Motorsport.

sorry, i guess i did get a little side tracked in my message..... it is indeed the colour that i am trying to establish......
but it indeed has the leather centre console, and the m-tech colours on the seats, and yes, not all motorsports came with m-tech 2 kit and bubble leather.....
also, just out of curiousity, does anyone know why on the later motorsport convertibles (the ones with bubble leather or lotus leather and m-tech kit) why do the macau blue cars come with early type rear lights, and the sebring grey, mauritius blue and calypsso red cars come with later type rear lights?
just wondering.....lol
