I've spent the last 4 hours renewing the timing chain and all the relevant guides, tensioner and seals associated with it to get rid of the horrendous grating/rattling noise that's been coming from my wife's 318iS.

The noise has dissapeared now but unfortunately I found this Image The Profile gasket has hardened and is only just holding on :x

That's a head off job then  :cheese: what a sh!t design

Not a happy chappy now :-x

Cheers,

Iain T

Cost me £240 for new chain and all the guides as well as new tensioner/blade and new gaskets. I also fitted a new water pump while I was in there.

Nope, that doesn't include the water pump or any sprockets but does include everything else. The sprockets were in very good condition anyway so I left them alone.
