Same pattern:
1. BMW M-product (be it 3 or 5) destroys all opposition when new.
2. It then reins at the top for about 5 years. (Nothing can touch it at this point.)
3. Audi and Merc bring out newer models to try and fight said M-product
4. Old M-product either beats new opposition or is slightly slower (in straight line), but still more fun.
5. New M-product comes out and wipes floor with rivals
Note: Repeat cycle every 6 years for best results.

its whats made BMW the most succesful executive car company of the last 10-15 years. No compromise.
Wouldn't drive anything else

Ive been known to get very excited reading car mags like EVO and Car when Beemers are (as usual) dishing out some beatings to Merc and Audi!
Apparently the checkout que in tesco is not the place to start fist pumping the air! (This is according to the fiance who has to stand there next to me!)

i saw abit first time and the BMW did look more fun but they were testing the top of the range Audi against an M3 wouldn't the Top of the range BMW have been the M3CSL? to be fair?

Good point, although they rekon the M3 CS is the best of the lot. It has the CSL steering and other gizmos but the every day comfort of the 'Normal' M3
Course you dont get the fantastic induction noise of a CSL at full chat

I think the story would of been different if they raced from 70mph + thats where the M3 comes alive. It beats RS6s from about 70.
The CSL sounds soooooooooo nice at 8000rpm

During that "test" it looked pretty clear to me that Tiff was dying to get the back out in the M3 but was stuck in the Audi cos he's about the only guy who could make it slide at all. Then again I'm wondering how long BMW are going to be able to produce stupid power in a RWD car without getting their arses sued off in the US...or introducing a traction control system that you can't switch off.
