I just bought an FSE type boost valve, but there was no proper instructions included. Anybody know where the fuel regulator is on a 318is & do you need to by-pass it completely?
Any diagrams would help.

You need to sell the boost valve on as they're completely useless. :(

The things are pretty worthless on a modified engine too.

Just adding fuel indiscriminately with absolutely no regard whatsoever for the amount of air being ingested by the engine.

If you've significantly changed the breathing of your engine, you really need a remap to be done on a rolling road or some such, not just gobs of extra fuel.

agreed

seen quite a few people obtain these things without the instructions. If you do still want to fit then you need a pressure gauge installing inline so you can actually set the damn thing up properly, rather than guesswork.

Usually on an unmodified lump (so without uprated cams etc) it just causes overfueling and on some occasions a nice underbonnet BBQ. If you have a modfied engine with a lairy cam then they can help to avoid if leaning off on the fuel too much at the top end.

My 325 came with one fitted and I never had any bother with it, even tough it did not have a pressure gauge fitted, it was set up properly on a rolling road at the time a re-map was done and the car alegedly made 192hp with the other head mods.

Not sure what the standard fuel pressure is on a M42

thanks for the replies boys i d,ont know what to do now, the valve has a guage fitted and i was told it would make a big difference in power and level out the flat spots in the engine. as far as i know the m42engine is unmodified in my car bar a exhaust and filter. iad like to chip it and get it rolling roaded but after i have it running right, airflow pipe cracked and leaking, c,ant get 1 for it.

It's not your fault at all mate, many people have been reeled in by the marketing behind these products. Then it only takes a couple of people to buy one and say it makes a difference before they become the next big tuning mod.

Unfortunately, the only way to make a big difference in power is to increase the amount of air the engine can inhale.

Honestly though, the standard FPR will probably be set at 3bar above manifold pressure. Any more than that is too much.

Guess people want to believe that they can bolt some power onto their cars easily, which you can in some cases, but Power Boost Valves aren't one of those cases. Then a generation of Saxo drivers buy them and make massive power claims, measured using their arse dyno, and the rest is history.

Take it the dealers can't help out with the pipe?

Bought the massive inlet elbow for a 1999 M3Evo a while back from the dealers and it was less than £20 so their prices shouldn't be too bad hopefully :D

the inlet bellows cost about £12 at the stealers, there is something wrong if they can't get hold of one. If you just ring and order it giving your car reg number that will ensure the correct part arrives.

not sure if GSF sell them www.gsfcarparts.com
