Hi
I got a car where the electric windows fuse keeps blowing.
At first, i thought it was if i left me finger on the button too long - but earlier today - it happened whilst the window was going back up!
This happens to both fuses (engine on/engine off)
Any ideas how to cure this?

Any door? You sure? Or have you got wrong size fuses fitted? 17 and 28 should both be 30A.

both are 30 amp - at first i thought it might be a relay not cutting out when it gets to the top or bottom - but it also happened once when i was pulling all windows down at once!
Is there any relay involved?

Mine kept blowing because i had a paper clip fall down below the ash tray and it shorted the cigaret lighter

No relay involved - the motors just stall when the limits are reached. If the button is still held down, the cutout should trip.Quaser wrote:both are 30 amp - at first i thought it might be a relay not cutting out when it gets to the top or bottom - but it also happened once when i was pulling all windows down at once!

If the fuses are correct, there is no single fault that would blow the fuse when any window is operated.
Only suggestion I can think of, is that all the window mechs are dry, and the motors are working too hard. Lubricate the window channels with silicon grease spray.
The fuse is entitled to blow if you operate all the windows together.

in that case - how feasible would it be to put a fuse in line with each switch and just wire up the main fuse point?
what colour lead would i need?

Would be possible if you fed each switch from a sererate fuse at the main power terminal, and then fitted a seperate earth wire from each switch, otherwise you would risk overloading the supply and earth return wires.Quaser wrote:in that case - how feasible would it be to put a fuse in line with each switch and just wire up the main fuse point?

A lot easier to sort the fault.

Have you got any total enclosure modules fitted?
Has anyone tapped into the window power feed for any other 'Accessory' in the car?
