i got a e30

it has standard speakers up from
some pioneer (period spec no doubt) 3 ways in the rear shelf (sillly place to put them in my eye)

i just put a sub in the boot (twin 12" longmill) and it sounds gash.. in my last car i had some decent pioneer 3ways up front standard in the back and the sub just chucked in the boot

i know i need to uprate the front speakers but what to (id like them run off the headunit as i only have 1 pre-out and my hu runs at 4x50 anyway)
shall i just leave the rear speakers as be or sahll i downrate them so i just got something for rear fill ?

Right then, here comes my opinion!!

If you're not too bothered about people in the back or don't have passengers very often, i would go for the best front speakers you can afford (along with some sound deadening behind them). A decent amp, even if small, would give a big improvement - you could get a 30watt rms amp which will sound a whole world better than the 50w max of your h/u!!

If you have a rear armrest, you can break the ski hatch through so the bass can filter through to the main cabin, if not, i would take the rear speakers out, just leaving the grilles, so the bass can filter through there.

All depends what lengths you want to go to and how good you want it!
Are you after volume or quality??

Most important bit though is to always listen before you buy!!! Just 'cos a speaker is expensive, doesn't mean it sounds good! Everyone plays different music and everyone's ears are different!!

Hope this helps!!
