I'm wondering how to put the 2.8 out of the e36 into my e30 318is can anyone give me any help please.

The 2.8 is almost the same as doing a 2.5 swap. Do a search for M50 or M52 engine swap.

Make sure you get hold of all EWS immobiliser bits from the donor to match the ECU, if your donor has this stuff.

is it a big job? and what would need upgrading on the car could i use the same gear box? would the fuel system need upgrading and the brakes too? any help gratefully excepted

Starting with an iS, no chassis mods will be required, except for stronger front springs to compensate for the heavier engine.

E30 325 box will fit the 328 engine but will be rotated several degrees because the M5xx engines are tilted more than the M20.
This will cause problems with the gear linkage and gearbox rear crossmember, but this is offset to some degree by no problems finding a propshaft, and being able to use the 325 E30 diff.
