Yeah, it's a very quiet road that go's no where now so it gets the odd bit of fly tipping :?
sorry but even though the 2.5 M20 is nice, the 3.5 M30 is just in a different class! bmw should have offered it as standard!!! :D wheelspin in second with decent suspension, rwd and a LSD is just proper! :D :D :D
I don't mess about with it to much at the mo because it's too expensive to go wasting Goodyear F1's !!!! Now it's getting dryer i'll swap my Avon's on to the back, i don't mind wasting them so much :)

it's the tooooooorque that does it! the low ratio diff i'm running helps in 2nd gear playing too, though i doubt it'll render 2nd anything other than more amusing once i swap the diff over!

my wife has the engine you're fitting in her E34 525i sport and that'll leave a E30 325i in a straight line so i very much doubt yours will be slow! it's a much nicer sportier engine than the M30 imo as it's a lot revvier. we can compare if you like, assuming you don't eat until then and get yours finished!

who's up for some food aid parcels for steve then? free up some car part cash?!!! :D

It's quick believe me, when I collected a few parts off Andy he took me out in it 8O the acceleration was amazing although not suprising as his motor isn't standard.

What was it dyno'd at Andy 240 or 260bhp?

Are you still using the 3.91 dif ?

What dif are you going to swap it for ?

I eventually(sp?) want to swap my 3.64 for a 3.46 and use a sports ratio gear box(if posible) as i'd like slightly longer gearing in 3,4,5 and a tall 1+2 because the M30 will be able to pull it well because of the torque.

i am indeed! thought it would be worthwhile leaving for the time being as it's the original diff from the car and though not the best ratio, it was there and in LSD flavour!
Andy335Touring wrote:What dif are you going to swap it for ?
not decided yet. it ventures onto a motorway maybe twice a year so short gearing isn't too much of a problem for me. a taller first gear would be more use though as it's hard controlling wheelspin from the line in 2nd if i'm 'playing'.

i don't know how yours compares but i've got a E34 530 'box in mine.

i can't see gearing makes a huge difference with the M30 as there's so much torque. it's probably better to be a bit overgeared to cut the amount of gearchanges down as they're almost unnecessary!

do you find yourself driving around at 900rpm then stalling every other car you drive? winkeye

the m50 2.5 is a nice conversion for the money. but its not a great deal quicker than a good m20.

the m30 will spank a 2.7/m50. really does kill them in a straight line.

Hey Andy, it was nice to meet you too! Thanks for being a gent and inviting me up for a spin - sorry I haven't replied sooner but I haven't been home since I was at yours!!!

To everyone else, sorry we didn't do any filming or photos - not sure I could have held onto a camera anyway with the accelerative force of the M30!

That really is a fast car, spinning the wheels slewing sideways in 1st and 2nd gear with only a couple thousand rpm dialled in! Pure class winkeye

Certainly can't wait to get my conversion underway now, although I think it has opened my eyes a bit more to how involved a job it is with limited tools and time! However I will find a way of doing it, but it may take a while to complete!

Thanks once again Andy, look forward to meeting you again soon!

Rob

p.s. the competition didn't work out too well for our fighters but it was still a good experience, thanks for asking!

I can apperciate that vid now! winkeye

Went for a quick spin in "Ant2" 335i

Bloody hell, If my M50 conversion is half as fast as an M30 conversion.....

I will be a very happy man! :D

This is true, My M50 has only been about 10 days so far......its just the 10 days have been spread over two months!
