The '93 & 94 tourings and cabrios had a drivers airbag option.

Has anybody thought of retrofitting?
The bits are often available on eBay in Germany.

The main drawback to a retrofit, apart from the hassle, would be having to face one of those early airbag steering wheels instead of a nice Mtec 2

I figure the hubs of the airbag wheels were a bit big.
Modern airbag wheels seem to be neater in design !

A matter of taste I suppose.

All this doesn't have much to do with the idea of retrofitting a driver's airbag :?

'Only raised it as I figured it is always interesting to bring older cars more up to date :)

Bit of a bump for an old topic, but I only just realised they were available! Quite like the look of the newer airbag wheel (there's 2 types), & figure it wouldn't exactly be a bad thing to have... Anyone know what else is needed to fit one?

sorry to hijack the thread........

but I need to diagnose my 93 w/airbag. I just installed a keyless entry system and now when I start the car, the SRS light in the check panel flashes for about 10 mins then goes solid. This didn't used to happen.

p.s. - I hate the way the air bag car wheels look.........

dont forget most airbags have a limited shelf life usually 10 years so your second hand one is going to well over that ....and think if you have a shunt and by some miracle it goes off your insurers are more likely to write it off because of the cost of replacement ...my etk shows the cost of a replacement as 591.00 inc vat....i think ill wait till im much older and am forced to get a bag by a doctor at least i can get the wife to change it...
