Hi there, nice choice of car
Is this juddering all the time (i.e. from cold?) or only when it's warmed up? If it's when it's warmed up the answer I was given when I asked the same question was "they all do it".
If there's a solution to it though I'm interested
Sorry I couldn't be any more help

without more detail i'd say a worn gearbox or the brakes are binding

I have experianced re-conditioned clutches doing this so maby its a clutch problem?
try revving it more and slipping the clutch, this helped me.... it was a berlingo works van though so i didnt mind killing the cheap-ass clutch

from what i can tell the clutch is not slipping at all, and it does it all the time even when warm. the clutch on the car was replaced something like 20,000 miles ago. when the car is idling there is a weird sound coming from the engine bay, asoon as i dip the clutch the noise goes, sounds like something whining??

I had the same symptoms and thats what it was. before realising thats what it was i jammed somrthing in between the strut brace and the engine just to see what happened and the judder was gone, so i changed the mount and it was cured.

no no i meant deliberatly slip the clutch when settitng off, if this reduces or eliminates it then it could be that its had a cheap clutch fitted and its juddering, check the rubber guibo? (donut) that joins the gearbox to the propshaft too.kingwajuk wrote:from what i can tell the clutch is not slipping at all,

Just the two up front, one on either side of the engine to the chassis. I changed mine in an hour, could be done faster.

Oil contamination of the clutch plate will cause juddering.

I think it'll take more than a drain n change to cure oil on the clutch itself, you'd have to ask Brianmoore the ins an outs of curing such a prob.

Chances are the crank rear oil seal isn't quite as effective as it once was, and possibly crankcase pressure is higher as well.
MAJOR operation to cure. Gearbox out, flywheel off job.
Stonesie's idea of deliberately slipping the clutch a bit might burn it off (for a while).
Most of the other stuff already posted are possibilities as well, some more likely than others.

I had the same problem on my 1992-318i cab. My car had only 52k when it had the problem you describe. It took me ages to find out what was wrong with it. I changed the clutch fluid, the spark plugs and the ht-leads even thought it might need better oil in the engine as I serviced it a week before the clutch judder. But no the problem was still there. So by the off chance I worked out what it was. When I put my foot down hard and applied a bit more gas the clutch judder was gone and the same when city driving just added a bit more gas then normally to set of in to first gear it had gone. So I put it down to the ecu. I then order a zone chip and the clutch judder has never come back.
I, am not a hot on these kind of things but the ecu was not giving the right mixture of fuel with the air and this is why I was getting a kind of clutch judder affect and on my 318i it dose not have a air flow meter adjusting screw like all other e30.
Give it a go if you haven't solved your problem yet. It might work for you
Thanks

Just changed the spark plugs and the problem has gone, so it was the plugs all along.

That's a missfire, not a judder.kingwajuk wrote:Just changed the spark plugs and the problem has gone, so it was the plugs all along.
