Well Phil's Stateside excursion ended on monday - but he's only really got back into my car today - there is still (i know i know) 2 hours more welding to go but given that it was as bad as the photo below shows and in total Pete's spent probably 20 hours at it (as we didnt want to just do a patch job, we wanted to do it right, rust is like a tumour, you gotta cut a good bit wider to avoid secondaries...) then 2 hours is nothing!!!

All the other major work depends on this being done really, as once done,
Then the bulkhead insulation can go on, the engine can go back in for the last time, then it can be plumbed in properly, the carpet can go in which kicks off the interior etc etc.. see my point?

Anyway i will visit maybe this weekend or monday and take some snaps of the freshly welded floor...

Phil is holding me to my 'birthday' completion date!!! Well so he says...

Though he keeps saying "your birthday isnt December 19th is it by any chance?"

to which i reply "very funny... June 4th buster and dont you forget it!!!"

Till next time then!

Fuckin AY - NOW your talking!!!

Thats the best idea i think ive ever heard!!!

Give that man a pint and a slap on the back!

its a special day too because thats only 1 week after i have the last part of some very serious medical treatment too! So i will have 3 reasons to celebrate life, summer and all things Beemer!!!

Im a Norf Landan boy born and bred though i live in rival territory now (1 mile from Whitehart Lane!!!) so what venue might be suitable?

A good one is the Orange Tree in totteridge, its got a nice outside area and big car park close by to show off all our cars and theres lots of rich folk in totteridge so we can blow off all the Boxters and stuff parked up there!

Any other suggestions as to a venue???

but in principle i think its a great idea. i'd like to put some faces to the names that (in MOST cases) have been so supportive during the last year... but if that MasterBates Everett twat thinks he's invited he can think again!!! Thats my ONLY request! everyone else is totally welcome!
The 4th is a sunday too so it will work out great!!! We can do drifting runs down totteridge lane and see if we can run Cliff Thorburn over in the process (as he lives there somewhere!!!)

Karan geezer (i had said 'muppet' in jest but i dont want this to be misconstrued as anything more than friendly banter as often happens with off the cuff comments on the Zone by those looking for any reason for verbal argy bargy!) .- sort your sig out mate - with you two photos side by side they are making the web page WAY WAY too wide to view even maximised on a 1024x768 screen resolution! It makes it really hard to read posts having to use the horizontal scrollbar!

How about downsizing the photos or even better, one UNDER the other as opposed to side by side???

yeah? duh!

You must have a huge screen res then? AS i have the standard one that all PC's and laptops are set up with now (on older machines with 800x600 rsolution the problem would be even worse!) I cant see how anyone else can view this thread on this page (page 17) and see the whole page without scrolling left to right ? its just the way it is! karan's two sig images are wider than 1050 pixels, they are about 1400 i think roughly... hence what effect this has on the display!

Look im not having a go or anything, this isnt yet ANOTHER boring 'whose side are you on' thing, im just pointing out that for a FACT Karan's 2 sig images are side-by-side as they appear, wider than the maximum width of the browser window ok?

Whether this bothers you or not is the issue and then whether it's worth asking him to change it!! ok?

AS long as we are roughly on the same page then!

Cheers

I think I broke my mouse button looking at all the pages.......

I didn't get all the way through and started skipping around.......

Are there any pics of the exterior other than the one showing the rims?

how is it that the simplest things on here can get twisted out of all proportion. It happened on this very thread once before where someone had a huge image in their sig and steve or someone else piped up like i did in good spirits and said 'oi sort it out!' so why is this any different?

Mason - pfff... Its a free world - you can think what you like. Im not rising to it.

in general though. Lets calm down please?! lets not change it then! Its not THAT important and for the record, the screenshots above SHOW what im saying! You can clearly see a horizontal scrollbar which means the page is too wide for the screen right? But look, theres no need for such a minor issue to once more lead to personal attacks... im not whining at all, its a simple point and yet again, people seem to manage to take it the wrong way! I might add it was directed at Karan, no one else, and he knows i have no beef with him whatsoever so can everyone else pipe down please or ill just take it back, admit im an arse for raising the point in the first place, apologise for the war and do whatever anyone else wants me to apologise for just to restore a sense of balance and sensibility to this thread once more!

Man! 8O

Oh BTW back on topic if i can for a sec, has anyone here tried to fit the Recaro speed style seats but the ones with the much wider shoulder supports into their E30? Do they fit or are they too wide? As im bidding on some on Ebay and wondered if they might be too wide....?

And finally, which model of E30 M3 had the dashboard that came as standard covered with Alcantera/suede? Was it the Europa meister? As my dash is really tired and i wondered if anyone had had this covering process done to their E30 before?

RobMpulse - no - not as of yet, because the exterior is pretty bare right now, no glass, no bodykit/bumpers etc... I am going to try and take a shot to show how 'glass like' the paintwork is this weekend... then i will take more as the body parts and kit are/is fitted...

Cheers

I haveent got any shots of the exterior - but how about this one of the INTERIOR to show just how much is left to do inside the car (i.e THE LOT!!!)

Wiring in a dashboard i always thought must be a nightmare... im gonna be helping with this one so i guess i will find out if my intuition is right or not!!!

Talk about BARE huh?

Moofles - fair point (see the difference? he didnt say 'Dont mean to be rude BUT are you ever going to post anywhere else you girly whingy poof sucker?')

I do post elsewhere, but its mostly on the threads of other modded M3's or E30's like Glens stunning V12 conversion... or the V8 one!! (or is that the wrong way around?)

But i have to admit (and i did say this when i joined) im not really into E30's per se... only the M3 which ive drooled over since i used to go and watch the ETCC races in the late 1980's with my dad when he was working for Nissan and their Skyline program and all I did was my karting and school/university - its the only thing that limits my postings really mate...

well coZ im getting on a bit and a child of the 80's its really the E30 M3 all the way, the R32 Skyline i like, Lancia Delta Integrale - basically cars from the Era when designers used to muse "hmm.. we need a wider track width, i know... " and then they just stick on a brutal wheelarch extension (a la the M3, Integrale, Skyline, Audi Quattro) - see the connection?

Modern cars - well because I cut my teeth in karting and raced up to Class B F3 I cant deal with Front wheel drive which is why i respect BMW so much for being one of the only manufacturers with Mercedes (which are no competiton as drivers cars) to stick with rear wheel drive

I did have a lush Scooby WRX Type R 2-door about 4 years ago, i bought it direct from auction in Japan and could have been one of 3 diffrent cars but when mine arrived it just happened to have about £10,000 of engine mods!!!! it was according to Scoobysport at the tiime the most powerful Impreza they had ever tested.... it was putting out 350 BHP at the flywheel, i loved that car but it cost £6000 in 12 months to keep on the road! the paddle clutch lasted 2000 miles, the gearbox 6000 miles, it ate tyres, i put so many new parts on it, it went through bushes like mad too... but it was awesome, 4.0 seconds to 60mph!!! I could hold a Honda CBR600 to about 80mph!!! Thats the only modern day car ive owned reeally, all the rest have been MCARS, ive had an M635csi, an E34 M5, an Alpina B7 turbo (6-series very rare), an Alpina B10, an E30 M3 Evo II and two E28 M535i's....

I would like to try a newer M3 but i think they are too big and mine i think will be more fun to be honst, no traction control and all that shit, Id love to do a Blown 4.4 V8 conversion of an E36 maybe... Phil at CPC is very keen on the 4.4 V8 and its potential, like those mad Fins who have that V8 E30 M3 which is putting out nearly 1000 BHP!!! It does 10 second 1/4 miles!!!

So i think i will stick with MCARS.... what about you? What car do you drive now? And whats the best car you have owned?

MFRee

p.s - Moofles, love your sig animation - but how may i ask did you get your postings counter to read MINUS 6750??? Life on mars type of scenario or something? What gives??? :?

and i think i'm getting a bit of arthritis in my wrist but i will let you know if i'm gonna lay a claim for compensation (need $ for the 3,5)

ahh well i've only owned a few cars, none too interesting - 87 e30 320i x 2, 89 vw polo 1.0L :o , 98 2.8 z3 (which would be the best).

I'm back to the polo atm, as i just got a bike (see if you read the pub talk threads you'd know  )...suzuki sv650s...and by virtue of being the only bike i've ever owned, it's the best :P

From one mad hatter (though not the 'talking to oneself' type as I am!) to another - OF COURSE YOU CAN!

As I said before, to have locked antlers in a vicious series of exchanges and yet become amicable chatters down the line indicates IMO a really sound character...

Yeah we have to fix a location though... and limit numbers to some degree (mind you i cant see that being a problem because most of the Zoners fuckin hate me!) as given that im pledging to let everyone at the gathering out in my car in the driving seat (tho with me sat beside them!) for a blat, if there's too many bods the car will end up being scrap by the end of the day!!!

We should probably do that BEFORE we get trollied too!!!

So its You, Kos, Steve (if he's interested?) and of course the man that suggested the idea!

Thats 5 of us so far! Thats enough to get medieval on someone but not quite enough to start a revolution!!!

Toby - im not para or anything mate, but without a hey or hi or anything it was just "Cant wait for this to end so you piss off and we stop hearing your girly whinging..."

I didnt detect much sarcasm mate... mind you ive never been good at detecting that harsh kind of guy on guy sharp banter thing so maybe you are right... guess im too gay for the laddish end of fun and games... You need to skool me.... :D

You know me, I joke about AND lock antlers with the best of them and can take a dig too, but i dont know that guy from Adam and you dont just wade in and say that, but hey i can see this sprialling AGAIN into a 'he said she said he said etc etc..." so lets leave it...

You fancy coming to the road debut/birthday/tea party/pint sinking thang?

MFree

p.s Toby i LOVE that photo on YOUR sig!!! it reminds me of MY M3 when it was in bits on my driveway after i got it back from stratos... people would ask me "hows the M3 going...?" and I would reply "Backwards..." LOL

I guess you must all be using some ancient browser,
Microsoft hasn't updated their stuff since a decade ago when they
finished nobbling Netscape. If you download FireFox:

http://www.mozilla.com/

then you can install the 'AdBlock' plugin

https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/m ... on=firefox

and simply banish any picture you do not like forever. It surprises me
that people still use Microsoft Internet Explorer, but there again some
people still drive the Rover Metro... 8O

P.S. You can get shot of Outlook, the Lada of Email clients and replace
it with ThunderBird from the same site while you are at it..

BigKev - i dont disagree - this should have been a 10 page long thread that began in january last year and should have ended about 4 months later...

but there's no accounting for crooks as this sad story tells AND 75% of this thread is people wading in off topic for a pop or seven,

I will post some meaningful stuff next week on the car i promise...

You can always ring CPC and protest saying "listen Phil if you dont finish this damn M3 soon ALOT of E30 Zone members are likely to die of bordom!!!"

I think this post, even though its long, is very positive, it will make a lot of people who read it, be on there toes when taking there cars to mechanics with reputations to get work done. it will also help a lot of people who might be attempting to do the same kind of project. So its not boring, its becoming more like a manual. I could write a post like this on my own car at present and could do another one on my mates E30, and thats why i can relate to this post.

My mate went through the same thing with a company that is still around, if he placed a post up on the zone, it would cause mayhem, so keep it up Mfree. anyway the car is in good hands now.

Do not let people get you down, I may not agree with the amount your spending on the car as do others but that doesnt mean it is a bad thing or something we should not aploud.
What you are doing is right for you and I am sure that once it is complete the amount of self satisfaction will make you feel like nothing else.
You will sleep well at night knowing that in your garage is a work of art made from many sleepless nights and much hard work.
When you have that feeling it makes no difference when people argue with you about the car, it will be parked in your garage, the envy of any hardened e30 fan.

I dont really want to name them, as it was not my car that had the problem, and i only got involved towards the ending when it looked like the weapons were going to come out, so i dont know how much of the story i was told was true, and like they say there is always two sides.

What i can say is my mate had a conversion done to his car from the day he bought it, and for the three years he had the car he, spent £60,000 plus which i saw receipts for and one reciept totalled £14,000. And everytime he took the car back, they said it was something else, it came to the stage that i had to sit and referee with my mate and one of the partners of this company, in a pub after working hours.

And the final result was, they promised to get the car working properly on the basis that he never bought the car back to there garage again, after he spent £60,000 plus with them. Now to me i would have burned the company to the ground. and guess what it still never worked properly.
