Having E36 or E30 track rods on a E30 rack?, anyone who read my dilema regarding what rack i was Sold, this is related, the whole arm is e36 not just the ends, but im 90% sure my turning circle is tighter now yet im still doing 4 turns lock to lock...reason i say this apart from the gen feel of it is it rubs on something on full lock, not sure what yet but it never happened before so something is making my wheels turn more..could it be the track rods used?

I need to get the tracking and balancing done but im sure this wouldnt be the cause of the rubbing, sounds like it rubbing on the plastic sump protector if thats what it is..

If the answer is E36 or E30 track rods behave in the same manner and no difference will be noticible then this rack is truly screwed with me brain!

BTW same mounting positions were used on this rack as my old one,and that had no rubbing at all

any advice

Do you mean it's rubbing the road wheel as you roll forward or the rubbing happens when you turn the steering wheel to full lock ?

I don't know all of the details about the problem you've been having but as regards the feel of 'rubbing' on something, if you have E36 track rod ends fitted into an E30 rack, IIRC, the E36 track rod ends (i.e the screw-in bit with the ball joints on the end) have a larger 'bump' in them compared to the E30 ones.

Could it be this that's catching on something? :?

Thks Martin,

No rolling is fine, this is happening only when turned to the Left on Full Lock, and i mean Full,if i relax on the pump a bit NP's but on FULL it rubs, either way my old rack never done that period, only difference IF indeed this new rack is an E30 one is the ond one had E30 rods on as opposed to the E36 ones on this rack

Try turning the wheels full lock and have a look at the plastic under tray. The tray can be moved slightly because it has slots where the plastic nut secures it at the sides, you want it as far forward as possible. On mine it's positioned too far back and the wheels rub the arch in reverse and the circlip on the rubber gaiter of the rack would catch the edge as i steered left and right.
