Anyone got an opinion on the best exhaust to fit to a 1990 sport?

I'm looking for performance first, then sweet sounding!!

Got a Scorpion on it now, but 2 brackets have broke on me so far so not keen to get another (no lifetime guarantee I'm afraid, as they were on the car when I bought it many moons ago!).

So over to you guys, what do you think?

Standard for performance and sounds, or a sebring for slightly more noise but not loud, I wouldn't expect any mojor performance gains from any exhausts though, the standard ones were pretty good to start with.

buy a new bracket from the bmw dealer will be under a tenner, go up the zorst place and get it fitted.

Scorpions are stainless?! it's only the mild steel baffles inside the silencers that go after a good few years.

Because the bracket is broke it will be rubbing and moving around which is prob what the noise is, i've had this myself

Understatement  when I visit my sister she's always waiting at her door as she thinks I'm just pulling up outside the house due to hearing me three streets away :?

I will fit a standard system next time

Wildeian. Head to central tyres on north station road. Nick is really good at repair work and loves a play on these sort of things.

He has done loads of jobs for me over the years

Hi Paul,

My sport has a mounting just infront of the rear box, but it IS part of the centre section.

It's pretty near the back, and it is the first mount from the downpipe back, so the centre section is technically 'unsupported'.

I've just found one of my clamps is loose!!! Thats gonna be contributing to the damn noise!!

Hope this helps.

cheers Ian,

i thought this might be the case i jus wasn't sure!! I'll try my clamps, but also it seems as though the center box is knocking off the chassis, dunno how, it jus might need twisting round a bit tho!!

Cheers Paul.

You sure it's coming from the exhaust, and not the prop?

if it's something with the prop the noise will be constant when the car is moving. Sounds to me like the exhaust ricey, get under and have a look!

exhaust is held by a bracket off the gearbox

one off the axle in front of the rear box and the rear box hangars

Yeah i thought that myself, its not constant you see! And i dont hane any brackets appart from the one next to the back box, but there is mounting points on the exhaust at about half way along the center section!?

is it L shaped on the exhaust? there should be a brakcet bolted onto the sub frame which is also L shaped. These two should be held together with a Circular rubber bush! under £10 too

Re original post for exhaust

I know of a specialist exhaust company who are going to release a limited number of E30 6 branch exhausts in stainless and centre box and M3 style rear all in stainless...it will be a similar style to Alpina and hence good performance...and believe they will sell approx 250 at low offer price to start ...not had price confirmed yet but believe manifolds and downpipes will be less than £400 as a guide that sounds cheap

this would interest me as I may need a new manifold soon. 6 branches definitely; stainless - depends on cost but ideally yes.

From the downpipe back i would go stright through and then buy a Hartge rear silencer. That will make an awesome sound. Circa £400 for the rear silencer.

Not actually as loud as you'd think, but when you give it some welly it makes a deep throaty noise.

Larini make good systems and make a standard 325i system in stainless. Supposed to sound like standard but louder. Must be good in my book!

this 6 branch deal etc sounds good too, but we need pics and more details!

Nothing sounds like an Eisenmann. Brilliant noise. Very expensive for just aback box though but if it sounds right then its worth it.

Hi

Spoke to the Engineer in charge and they are testing samples and they should be available soon...the plan is to do the whole system as a limited edition deal...but the manifold prototype is to be checked and confirmed mid May apparently and the price will be very competitive

Will let anyone interested know when I know..
