Looking for some advise really.
I've purchased a couple 325i's from ebay for track day / airfield day fun. One's an 1987 saloon and the other is a 1991 saloon.
The 1987 is a bit of a wreck and has 3 months MOT but won't see another MOT without some seroius cash so I want to take this on a track stock without changing the suspension and brakes just for a bit of fun.
Where can I go which is nearish to Birmingham or within a 75 mile radius? I'm not looking to be competative at all just to have a bit of fun, but I don't want to piss off people in their ferraris and caterams by holding them up so a light hearted day would be better.
Also could anyone give me some advise with regard to insurance, for example do people bother? If so who is the best broker to phone can I insure just for the day? If car's collide are individuals held responsible? etc etc... I have been to the Norburg ring in a friends TVR Chimera last May and that has spured me into some UK track fun, but have yet to find a track etc....
Basically I want to use the 1987 car just for a few days to gain a bit of experience, and then modify the 1991 car, I have just purchased some 'spax psx' suspension for a sport, I hope it will fit to a 4 door saloon, not sure if strut's are same size?
Anyway any info on tracks or airfields, (can't seem to find any info on airfield days via google??), would be good.

Hi mate, try bedford autodrome for your 1st, great track with massive run off areas.
As far as "light hearted" days go, tbh i dont think they exist any more. I was at a "novice" day yesterday, there was an escort cossie race car, an exige, a caterham, an fq400 - well, you get the idea!
Dont bother with insurance for a car like that, its just not worth it!

I wasn't bothered about insurance for my car as it only cost £300, I was on about a ferrarri if I have a collision who is to blame on a track? Am I liable for damage to others cars? etc...

I THINK on a track everyone is 100% responsible for their own car. 99% of incidents on a track day are just people spinning on their own.
iv never seen 2 cars come together, if they did it would just be 50/50 in most cases.
I never bother with airfields so cant help you there buddy

Any track day that I've been to at Knockhill, if you hit another car or vice versa it's tough sh1t - that's the chance you take on a track. Different tracks may have their own rules about it though. The way I see it is that if a guy wants to take his Ferrari, Porsche, etc on the track and doesn't have track insurance then the guy has more money than sense anyway.
As regards yor Spax kit it should fit no probs - the struts are the same size.

Normally every 325i has a 51mm strut. Even if you purchase track day insurance, there are no brokers that will cover 3rd parties! So its a case of if you think your own car is worth insuring, get a policy. If not, just leave it. I've never bothered with it, as I was using a £600 E30 also!
Donnington isn't too far from Birmingham. Castle Coombe is available if you want to go a bit further south Bristol way, and Oulton Park is slightly closer if you head north.

mallory is close to brum (its near hinckley). Bookatrack have a day there in october (www.bookatrack.com) and TSR performance are doing a day on 4th nov (www.tsr-performance.com - send email to Neal). I did one of TSR days last week it was £117 for a full day.

If you want a quiet rural track day without the big numbers of the UK then the Isle of Man is for you!!!
Advantages
Quiet compared to UK track days (Last track day there were 15 cars out )
Loads of Run off area
No Noise limits
No gatso cameras to and from the track
No speed limit outside the villages.
Disadvantages
It will cost you £200 to get here
There is a time difference on the Isle of Man.... about 20 years
