I presume your not just listening too loud??

Most likely could be that you've somehow adjusted the eq settings, or a loudness button, bass boost, etc which would more than likely cause distortion - have a look in the manual to see how to change these - to rule it out you could put the eq flat (all frequencies/levels at 0).

Could also be that you have the +ve and -ve the wrong way round on the speaker connections - this could cause distortion. I'm assuming you haven't changed the wiring at the speakers. Did you connect the unit straight in with a plug/adaptor or did you have to cut/join any wires?

If not, it could be a faulty unit, is it brand new? Ask the place you bought it if they have any ideas, or if it was mail order, pop down to your local car audio place - most are pretty happy to help out!!

Hope this helps!!

Reversing the - and + wires do not make speakers distort - it tends to
remove the bass and make the stereo weird.

Have you re-wired the speakers? The oem wiring was not suitable for modern head units in my car ('86) so might not be in yours. The problem
is a common -ve between speakers. This will eventually kill your amp.

Otherwise if you've got foam edged speakers it will be the foam surround
breaking up - take the speaker out and check. Try to plug it into a known
good hifi so you can verify it works properly.
