320i doesnt start sometimes

i have a 320i and 19 out of 20 times it'll start no problems, but sometimes the engine just keeps turning and turning and doesnt start and theres a smell of petrol, then if you leave it for bout half an hour and go back it'll start straight away. also i took it out the other day and whenever i let the clutch out the engine was nearly cutting out might of just needed a descent run tho cos i only took it out for bout 10 mins. cheers.

Welcombe to the zone on behalf of the team.
Could be many things, but as a start (no pun intended), I would check out the condition of the distributor cap, rotor arm and spark plugs.
