Right guy's, i was out last week with the missus+kids, driving normally up the dual carrage way, i started feeling a wobble,
i thought from the rear left, but could feel it in the tunnel,
so i slowed down and pulled over in to a layby, jacked the rear left up had a look about, nothing untoward,

took the handbrake off, i grabbed a hold of the wheel gave it a good pulling, and there was no movement up+down, left+right,

so i drove off down the road the car shaking allover the place, in 1st up in to 2nd still there droped it in to 3rd and it went away,

droped the kid's and missus off at home, drove away still there, so i booted it a bit and it went away, stoped at a roundabout, and when i pulled away it was still fekin there,

so the car has been on the drive for the past week, i'v changed the prop, as the new one had the center bearing in much much better condition, and while i was there i noticed the axle bushes were totaly shot to sh1t, so iv changed them, (nice)

(and never agian as i now have a broken thumb, due to the outer bit of the bush being seized in, and me attacking it with a chissel and a lump hammer, obviously i missed the chissel and found my thumb insted)

anyway back on topic....

HELP

i just dont know what it could be now and it's got my head sort of batterd, i just cant work it out,
hope someone can point me in the right direction :?

Assuming it's not a spigot issue then you might want to swap some wheels around so you can isolate the wheel from the car to find out which bit is guilty.
While you've got it jacked up spin the wheels to check a tyre hasn't bulged - rare but possible.

I had similar symptoms once with a seized handbrake mechanism on one of the wheels causing the shoes to bind slightly. This caused a vibration which I could drive through, like you describe.

Cheers,

have you looked at the rubber that connects the gearbox to the prop when these disintigrate they cause vibration/wobble

Found the lil feker!!!!

it's only the diff bush,
i had tthe wheel off checking the brakes and everything, looked straigt accross under the car and i seen the bolt that goes thru the bush sitting right at the *top* of the bush hole, hmmm i thought, so i put the jack under the diff and started to jack it up, only to see the diff move quite a bit before the car 8O so i'll get that sorted out tomorow/wed

cheers guys :)

back up,

right im totaly head batterd now, it's still there :-x

iv changed everything i can think off, since doing the rear bushes, prop, gearbox mounts, diff bush, i had the wheels checked and all is fine,
i was speaking to a mate lastnite and he was saying to check the engine mount's so iv done that this morning and there spot on still looking brand new,

so now the only thing i can think of is to jack the rear-end off the floor, stick my axle stands under and let it tic over in 1st and see if anything is moving,

the only thing thats puzzleing me is the fact it goes away when i put my foot down,

You also might want to check the propshaft UJs - in fact all UJs for wear.

have you checked the steering dougnut its in the engine bay it connects the steering to the rack check that for wear

that can probably cause it as when you drive at a low speed the car shakes that when you speed up its goes a stable and the vibration stops

Sometimes my car feels a strange vibration all the way through, but I've
traced that through the system to 'too much funk', the vibrations from
the stereo can often make the car seems like it's got something wrong
with it but then I change tracks and it's all much better again.

Funnily enough anything by JK and certain Muse tracks have the most
effect, regular domf domf tracks are easy to tell apart from the deep growls
and howling that comes out of the exhaust pipe...

If you don't think you are suffering from the same thing it could be time
to fit a new stereo system. If you've still got a vibration even after the
music police have visited and departed in their strange, silver craft then
I'd look at the wheels, spigots etc. I think you said you swapped wheels,
eliminating a thrown weight - so there is still the possibility of a spigot
shift or perhaps a rear wheel bearing?

There is only so much 'stuff' in the back: bushes, shocks, bearings,
UJs - you can fit new rear shocks quite cheaply, a faulty shock may
have broken your top mount. Things like bushes are probably quite
difficult to check while under load.

Good luck - we're all counting on you.

A thought from my genius mechanic friend is the handbrake shoes/drums - worth a shoe check and maybe a runout gauge.
Hope it's going well!

i had a similar problem with my 325i bm, i jacked the car up and noticed a few things that could be causing it.

Check your wishbone were it connects under the wheel if that rubber thing is broken or back of the wishbone rubber joint is gone they can cause this

also try shaking your wheels left to the right when they are jacked up

or warped brakes check for a lip on your breakdiscs

let me know how it goes
