I just got my IS donor car last night and i am stripping it today. just wondering how much of the wiring i need? the dash has already gone so it is easy to get to.
Has anybody done this before? are there any tricks or problems that i will encounter? Cheers. Ben

Shouldn't want any wiring from under the dash, except the end of the loom with ECU plug on it where it comes through the bulkhead just above the pedals.

You need to keep the iS engine loom with the iS engine.bennyboy wrote:Thanks! the ecu is easy to get as there is no dash. but it wont go straight into the 318i plug?
The only part of this that is under the dash is as above.

started the strip down today and what you were saying all became clear! got all the wiring sorted. fan off. exhaust manifold off. just the gearbox bolts now and a few hoses.
do the gearbox and prop just slot together?
what is the best way of telling if i have an LSD?

Bennyboy,if there is no tag on the diff(seen plenty that havent)then if you check the car up under the diff, turn the back wheel,if the other side wheel rotates the same way then you have LSD,if its the opposite way then no!

had the car up on axle stands today so put it in gear, turned one wheel and the other rotated the opposite way.
never mind. i got the engine, box, prop and all electrics out today so when i clear the car i will be able to get the cab in my workshop!
i have seen people swapping the m42 flywheel for the m40 fly. anybody reccomend this?
i have never really tuned an engine before so what mods would you suggest to start with?

Fingers crossed i will be putting my engine in next weekend. But when i was stripping the IS i forgot to take the mount for the coils off! i was going to drill the spot welds out and bolt it on the cab. Are there any other ways of mounting the coils?

Hi Bennyboy
I'm planning to do the exact same conversion before the summers
out, what was the most annoying part of the swap?

i have got the engine and running!!! but, i still need a mount/frame for the coils and not too sure about the engine number. i will tell my insurer about the conversion but i see quite a few people doing their own conversions and was wondering if you bother getting the log book changed?
Also, i have already asked this question but where is the number on the block? i was told by someone on here that it was on the 3rd cylinder on the inlet side. i had a quick look the other day but couldnt find it. do i need to take any parts off to view it or just get my eyes tested?

Did you use the M40 flywheel in the end?

I changed my logbook, just fill in the new engine number and new cc if needed.......sign and send off!
Got mine back within a week. I checked the dvla website and now it states my car is a 2.5ltr

cheers steve!
Eko- i posted a question on whether to use the flywheel or not and nobody replied so didnt bother in the end. have you done it? does it make much difference. i still have the water works round my throttle body a heard removing this would keep the inlet cooler. is it worth doing?

I asked the same question before you and didnt get a confirmed yes so didnt bother either!
Well ive removed the TB plumbing and also done it on Benjys car and my opinion is that there is a slight difference for the better, certainly no worse!
