Treehouse Racing in the States do one of these little jobbies which looks like a nice easy way to connect the E30 loom to the M50 engine BUT at $400
its a little out of budget!
Anyone got a cheaper solution??

That must be one of the biggest rip offs I have ever seen! Couple of hours work to make one at the most.LittleT wrote:Treehouse Racing in the States do one of these little jobbies which looks like a nice easy way to connect the E30 loom to the M50 engine BUT at $400its a little out of budget!

BUT, it's not needed. It's easy to cut the M50 plug off and splice an E30 plug complete with wires onto it.
Best place to do the splice is in the E34/E36 wiring box.
I have a list of which wires join to what if you need it.

What do you do with the wires not used?BrianMoore wrote:It's easy to cut the M50 plug off and splice an E30 plug complete with wires onto it.

You can either trace them back and totally remove them, or earth them out if like

Just insulate them and tie them back out of the way.stevetigger wrote:I just dont get electrics, So what would I do with them?ian332isport wrote:If you want a firestevetigger wrote:So the other 20 odd wires that are not used, connect them all to an earth?

That was my plan, I'm just going to cut them so theres no bare wire, then wrap insulating tape around the end of each one!

Depends what wires you have left over, all you should have left is non-functioning cable which can get full of static. Obviously if you have live wires left over something aint right.

The wires I have left, are the ones not on the list for plumbing together the M50 plug wires to the C101
I chopped off the M50 plug and put the 16 wires to the C101 plug, leaving whatever wires were not used

I dont know what you will be left with until ive finnished mine Steve. The final electrical stuff is last on my list, im planning on removing as much wire as possible as there is way to much to cram into the bulkhead cover IMO

On mine, I connected all the spare ECU wires (mostly aircon, which I may use one day), to 1k ohm resistors and then to earth, all neatly insulated by heat shrink sleeving. Don't want to find the relevent ECU section spiked by static when and if I ever use it.
Probably not neccessary, but I did it anyway.

I will never need the Air Con wires, so I will carry on as per instructed.
