Ahh, good to see some of you guys backing up my theory!

e34's ROCK!

Bought a 535i on an F with 150k for Ԛ£100 and spent 200 to get it MOT'd.

Fast as greased sh!t off a shovel, and 28mpg on a run.

Agreed that the m50 lumps are better suited to the motorway life that most e34's have.

A 535i Sport is a serious piece of kit, the e34 can be chucked about fairly well, and the steering is about as responsive as the e30-masses more info than the e32 7series "Council King" that i'm piloting at the moment.

just watch yourself when sideways 1900kg (535i auto) is a lot of lard to catch!

The colour of mine was Daytona Violet. Towards the end of the run of the E34 you could get this colour and Avus blue which were normaly seen on M cars. I liked that colour with the dechrome. Inside it had black wood and black headlining which also gave it quite a modern feel.

Only mods were clear lights and an M5 rear number plate surround. I think combined that gave a 20 bhp power hike

No way is a E34 535i anywhere near 1900kg.
Even the LWB E32 750iL is just under 1900kg.
An E34 is about 1500 / 1600kg

kerb weight of my e32 735i is 2200kg according to the handbook

kerb weight of my e34 535i is about 1950 according to the handbook.

lets not argue anyways, they're fecking heavy compared to the e30 :D

Sorry dude, you are wrong.

Non-SE manual 1525kgs
Non-SE Auto 1545kgs

Add extra weight for stuff like A/C and lecy seats if fitted

i can vouch for how much heavier a auto, aircon, lekky leather seated E32 735i is compared to a E30 335i!!! the E32 would only just outrun my astravan but now the 335i is, well, fooking scary quick! with (suprise!) the exact same engine!

incidentally, does anyone know what a manual E34 525i sport M50 weighs?

ive had my 535 for 5 years and its been so reliable, its let me down once in all that time! completely bombproof. with a sports suspension its a bit firm, but that just means it goes round cornors very well. the acceleration is great. ive been meaning to replace it for a couple of years now, but i cant find find anything as good! you wouldnt regret buying one. FSH a must!

Think you've mistaken maximum weight for the actual weight there!

We have a pair of E34 525i's running M20B25 engines (1989 manual, and 1990 auto).

Its definately a better car in every way than the E30. Except it has 4 doors, and they never made a proper 6 series off it. It doesn't rust, which is nice compared to the hole ridden floor and boot of my E30. Interior is worlds apart. Nothing goes clank, it goes thud. The windows dont rattle when you slam the door, the seat belt isnt suspended from a rock climbing caribeena, the gauges don't need SI board fixes, the carpet doesn't feel like its been arbitrarily cut to shape and tacked in place, the back seat, is actually a back seat, the parcel shelf isnt a piece of chip board wrapped in cheap carpet, the factory standard seats dont break under your arse, the back end doesn't step out at random in the wet, the engine bay isnt cramped, and its comfortable.

Mind you, if I had a <good> E30, I might be singing a different song. My 85 318i isn't exactly a minter ;)

Hey guys, seriously considering an E34 having read this: I like my E30, but it's thirsty (320) and getting on a bit...Plus I just prefer the E34 8) I remember getting a model one when I was about 10 and wanting one ever since (well, ideally I'd have an E32 7 series - my dad had a couple back in the day - but definately couldn't afford to run one at uni)

I just heard back from my insurance company and they won't insure me fully comp on a 525. :( They will, however, do 3rd party for £700 a year (£50 more than my 320 costs fully comp!) Is this extortionate, or sound ok?

When did the 24v come in to play? I've found a website with the following specs listed, I dunno if they're accurate though:
lb/ft bhp 0-60
525i I6 12V 165 170 8.9
525i (1990-) I6 24V 185 192 8.4

I have found the e34 i was looking for, i knw this is a old post, but i felt the need to conclude it. i ended up buying a manual 525i 24v vanos on a j plate, the car is coooool and am loving it, some mentioned the leg room is not much different to the e30...u were vry wrong, it is true when the seat is fully back, in my e30 i had it all the way back and if i do that on the e34 ill have to stretch to depress the clutch fully,so yes leg room is substancially bigger on the e34. the car is on a j plate yet it drives like a 2 year old car.

I am posting using my pocket pc...MODERN TECHNOLOGY!!!!!!!!!!LOL, hence no pictures, i do have pics of it on photo gallery under [spot the difference] if anyone is interested in seeing it.
thanks for all the advise on getting a e34. winkeye

Just won the bidding on this: I still have to inspect it, and as I couldn't view it he won't hold me to the sale unless I'm happy it's as he described.

But, ceteris paribus, this is my new car: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... RK:MEWA:IT

Hope so! Apart from that spot of rust he mentioned, it should be cool
I gather the fuel lines tend to rust: where are they located so I can see if they need replacing asap?

:D
Anyone know how much air-con gassing costs? Never had it before!

The M5 looks awesome: I'll bet you have some serious fun in that. Which E30 are you after next? M3 at a guess?

Nice late 525i you've bought.

I finally got round to getting some pics of my 3.8 M5:

I don't think I would own another E30 other than the M3 now.
