Hello once again Chaps, just looking for a little advice here, my car (318Is) has recently passed 140k and I am considering an oil change, been told that I should buy the oill filter from a main dealers (everyone agree with that), also I know to buy the sump washer to replace, my main concern is that I buy the right oil to put back into my Baby. I drive it hard (never been one for doing less that MAX RPM), my car has been chipped and has the bigger throttle body. Any tips on:

A) What brand, type, weight oil I should go for
B) How much oil do I actually need?
C) Oil filter and sump washer, anything I need to know (where to buy etc).

Just really want to make sure I get it right first time as I cannot afford to take the car off the road.

Thanks for any help offered.

Red Devil.

Hi mate, the main dealer is the best place for the oil filter. They're not expensive and come with the drain plug washer and the filter housing oil seals in a bag.

I'm using Castrol Magnatec 10w40 in the wife's 318iS, you could also put some quality fully synthetic in from the Oilman (see the group buy section). I use Fuchs/Silkolene Pro S 10W50 in my 2.7

Pretty sure it takes 4.5 litres but it could be 4.

Cheers,

I recently put Mobil 1 0w40 full synthetic in mine, it runs very smooth, feels more powerful and has good cold performance.

Maybe it's subjective - although there are some good tests..

I feel much safer thrashing the nuts off my 2.5 with this oil.

Can't see the point in semi-synth, as its all based on mineral oil.
Think about changing the coolant with 50% BMW dealer anti-freeze too
if you haven't for a while.

The thread about what you should definitely NOT put into your
car continues here:

Oilman will fix you up with a good oil and price.

Think mine took about 4.5 litres - budget for the long term and get
two bottles if they are only 4 ltr like Mobil - a not so subtle marketing trick there!
