bootyman wrote:I think unless you do shows which a lot of you dont, you wont understand what elf is saying. I'd like to think we all work hard for our money and we all like to spend it in different ways. I run the door of a wine bar when i'm home at the weekends and i watch guys come in and spend £100 + getting smashed and falling all over the place. Personally I'd rather spend that money on my car, but at the end of the day, that's me and they are who they are. I think you have to experience the feeling of being somewhere like Max Power or another big show when you have thousands of people standing ther admiring your car to understand why people like myself and elf spend so much money and effort on our cars. My car is alos known World wide cause of the several features i've had and i'm proud of that fact, not to mention the sucky, sucky it gets me winkeye .

And to the "BMW is close to perfect" comment, when i last took my car to my local dealers, even the manager came out to look so i think any make of car can be improved on. My car is also not a a garage queen. I drive it every weekend and enjoy it, i then drive it to shows and win awards cause i simply look after it. Most on the zone are quiet open minded and appreciate time and effort spent on a car regardless of who owns it, but there are still some here who slate anyone who dares to stray with the styling of their car. I watched Gouki get slated when he 1st posted pics of his car here and i felt ashamed cause the Zone has always been a welcoming place for eveyone, but some of the comments were just not nice. As a result he's slowly changing his car to standard to fit in and it's things like that, that is the ugly face of the zone. I love big wheels and big kits and big ICE and the rest of it, and any BMW i buy regardless or how rare it is will get the fcuk chopped out of it and will get a bling colour too and if anyone dont like it well my big black booty is ready to be kissed winkeye Nothing personal intended of course cause i love you all, but you can still kiss my booty  :D
Spot on chap, there always seems to be purest on every site that like cars to be taken down specific routes. Cars should be modfied for yourself and no one else :D

is it not.we all here for same thing the love of an e30,altho ive got a modded one,i wouldnt slate a standard one unless got AA or RAC badge on front.

Got a link to your car, not sure I have seen it. I love Bootymans car but but its not for me as I woudnt have a soft top or leather in a car, its just a personal thing. Doesnt mean I cant admire it

i dont think anyone here hates anything, just have different preferences.i class mine as heavily modified but with standardish looks.no car manufacturer makes the perfect car, theyre built with a compromise of style/performance and budget so they can always be improved upon.its more fun when you beat someone at the traffic light grand prix when theyre in a flash car and your in an old looking touring winkeye

Just read through this, its really interesting to see different peoples opinions.

Personally i think anyone who cant respect people like booty or elf for the effort they have gone to are very sad.

Given the same amount of money as either one of you have put into your cars i would just buy a csl and leave it at that but i can still see and respect all the love and hard work thats gone into making these cars.

Thats the thing isnt it, im balancing paying as much as I can off my mortgage, sticking lots away so I can retire at 50 and modifying my car.

I could probably remortgage my house and build my utimate E30 but if that means I wouldnt be able to retire until im 65 then its a no brainer

likewise,i couldnt get all my tools in my touring if it was full of i.c.e.morgage,wife and kids tend to slow the process down but ive still managed to spend several thousand of pounds and countingon my e30.my last project stung me for over £28000 over the 8 years it took to build purely on functional go faster stuff and restoration, not a bit of fibreglass or boot install anywhere winkeye

Thats nice. I specifically stated that as an opinion of mine, so as not to leave myself open to a slating due to varience of opinion on the subject. In short we all like our cars in different ways, and thats why the zone is a great E30 place. :thumb:

at last someone with a little respect for time money and effort we all make to our cars standard or otherwise.
i too was brought up with custom car magazine.but didnt have a pot to pee in until about ten years ago.always wanted a modded e30 and now got one.
i know one day i,l probably get too old for it.love to own a red concours m635 csi for retirement car
great conversation this tho me hooked, you can just see how passionate people are about there own vision of an e30 should be,and how so far some like myself have taken them.
next on my list 20 inch white and polished rims, projector tv out sunroof and 2 psp,s keep kids happy.

I'll happily appreciate an e30, you will get cars like bootymans which truely is modded to the hilt and althought extreamly eye pleasing it's not a car I would specifically want. Player6 has a gorgeous e30 and damn has he spent time modding that just in a different way.
Some people prefer the old skool styling (myself included) but like subtle mods or performance ones, we dont all like to show boat just have a nice car that appeals to us. I certainly wouldnt build a car and ask you if I should do something or anyone else as I would have to convince myself.
eg light tints on a black 2dr, yes or no? I'm not sure might be overkill I like eko's but it might look different in the flesh so still undesided
Bollocks to this 24v scrap!

I agree in part elf, without a doubt the e30 design is a 100% timeless classic.

However some of the modified ones iv seen can date really fast because fashions in mods change. Take neon lights for example, they used to be quite cool before fast and furious but now they look really tacky!

i agree elf,im tired of seing the same old saxo thing as well,i surely do appreciate what you and bootyman have done to your cars, you build them for your own taste, thats what its about.a couple of people flamed me for puting a cossie engine in my e30,but no one thats seen it in the flesh has disagreed with what ive done 8)

i agree also the only neons me got is in boot to light up bmw chrome tool kit.if you see my car in gallery only got reiger kit which to me is no differant than origanal m,tec still plastic but no fibre glass anywhere.most my mods wheels interior nitreous sounds.i havnt changed it to loose its classic appeal but still cost me big time for rest.
p,s ben if your name just posted on your subject, what should i do

I agree there elf, i wasnt thinking of your car there, just some modded cars you see would have looked great a few years back but now they look tacky and cheap.

I doubt there will ever be a time that the e30 shape will look crap, they will always be old skool cool :D

i agree also ben
i,l pitch my 91 h plate against any other model of same age (non bmw that is)and i bet most are in the scrap yard or rusty.any e30 would look better than any other car if looked after.
hope no ford fanatics on this site the rs turbo boys might get upset

:D Everyone seems to be agreeing now :D The bottom line is, as stated 100 times above, we all like different things. I'm a poser and i enjoy the buzz of having probably the only E30 anywhere that looks like mine. I work hard to pay the mortgage and all of life's burden's and my car is the one thing i have for me that is purely mine. Would i spend near another £50k on a E30 given the chance again? Hell no. I'd buy a E46 M3 cab, and have a nice clean E30 Msport or M3 cab, but the problem is they will look different simply cause i'm addicted to modding. From the 1st car i ever had, all my cars have been different from everyone elses and i've had friends ringing to ask if i've just got a new car when i finshed some of my projects cause they've seen the car parked up somewhere and they know that no one else would have a car like that winkeye

I think we should leave the Purist's to do their thing and they in turn should leave us to do our thing winkeye

here here.
think thats just about it then.
the final decision then.
no matter what you do to an e30 its still an e30
this is an e30 site.bad or good comments dont matter, its up to individual taste.
still would like to see a posse of e30,s at max power, even if its just to perv at all the lovely ladies.
why do you think an old man like me goes, keeps you young.

No worries buddy. I do understand your point and it's perfectly valid. I just dont want this to start getting heated again, but if nice and clean is what yoy like then so be it :D

Funny cause i have a friend who's into the stealth look on cars. He has a 46 cab and i always stare at the car cause it looks fat with no hardly any obvious mods and he stares at mine cause it's so in your face. I still wouldn't do his car and he wouldn't build mine, but we are still facinated with each others car
