... just got back from a training course at rockingham raceway for 3 days
was learning about the new shape 3series and got to take the new 330i round the track, but as good as it is,it just couldn't compete with the new M5
got driven round the track by a race instructor in this new beast. v10,507bhp,7speed sequiencal box. 0-60 in 4.6.
it was wet when i went out in it so they had it on the low power setting which is only 407bhp  , but it was still neck breaking and got up to 140mph with no effort 8)
can't wait to see these on the road and more than likey the body shop :(
this car is just
even with the traction control turned on you can spin it as on of the drivers found out and hit the wall

you lucky git... thts all i can say.
shame it was on low setting tho.

how does that work. do you have to switch settings at standstill or is it possible whilst in motion. like a shot of nitrous. 8)

The new M6 has something similar. A switch which takes the power from 400bhp to over 500! It probably just changes the mapping on the ECU.

The M6 has the same engine as the M5 but is quicker apparently. I still prefer the M5......

It has a number of settings you can set on the screen in side
-power settings you got, 400bhp, 500bhp or 500bhp sport, the 400 setting just resricts it via the mapping, the sport setting makes the throttle more responsive/quicker.
-traction settings on/ off and sport, which is half on basically which allows you to power slide :D
-active seats, which controls the eletric side bolsters of the seats, as you corner ie right it moves the left one to hold you in the seat 8)
-speed of gear change 1-6. 1 is sunday drive style, 6 is catch me if you can style
-H.U.D head up display. this basically puts a hollogramme of a rev counter, gear number and speed on the windscreen so you can see the road and info at the same time which is strange 8O but very cool to see. 8)
you set all these + a few others so you can have 2 settings sensible which may be 400bhp with full traction etc, and a mad settings which can be set to the M button on the steering wheel, so at a press of the button you can change to 500 sport, no traction etc :P
