hi,after owning a few of these things! ive got a bit paranoid about certain rust spots,i.e.
front jacking points
boot deep side bits (where the battery sits and other side)
so ive put waxoyl under the carpet in the front corners above the jacking points and underneath on the jacking points. and im thinking of putting it in the deep bits in the boot,or is there anothe way of preventing it in there? although my boot seal is fine they can leak for ages before you notice, ive even siliconed my rear light clusters in as they can leak like b*****ds too! im staying ahead of it this time! any other preventitive work you can think of? oh,and one of my water leaks was from behind the fusebox, right in the corner,no rust, just comes in between the spot welds! so i siliconed that too,you cant see it when the soundproofing go's back over! any other rot beaters??!!
prolonging your e30's life! how?

youve got the right idea there, i removed the jacking points on mine to solve the problem.
if ther is no damp, there is no rust.
if your seams are leaking however i suggest re-sealing them. scrape off the old sealer, treat with a rust CONVERTER not killer (changes rust into an organic compound) then re-seal with a proper sealer from a company like 3m or ici, and then brush over with a 2pk paint.
a coat of zinc primer over the rust will help in the event of rust return.
you want to be using dum dum paste for sealing rubbers + such,
SILICON IS CRAP AND REACTS WITH PAINT
