i posted a thread about tightening head bolts a while back,
i thought it was 22ft pound, then 90 degree turn, then anouter 90 turn,
a few people backed me up on this, so as i went to touque up the head, i done as above but when i got to the second 90 turn one of the center bolt's went.................................BANG
oh bugga i thought, so i poked the top of the bolt with my finger and the fcuker moved, s**t, so now iv got one snaped head bolt, so are those setting correct or what????
i know how to get the fcuker out, i just neeeed to know the right tourque setting's,
anyone??

Those are correct mate.
You didn't use the same old bolts did you? You can only use them once then they have to be replaced once tightened.
I use 30n/m then 90 deg and 90 deg again.

nope adam i used fresh bolts from e.c.p, so if those are the correct settings do you recon it could of been a dodgy bolt, i followed the settings to the letter, and as said on the last thread 30n/m is the same as 22ft pound apparently??

some oil in the bolt hole can cause this to happen, as can leaving the washers off M8

Oh yeah, you have to make sure those bolt holes are absolutely spotless before refitting the head. Use a couple of cans of carb cleaner to really get all the crap out of them and screw up some tissue to clean them out.
If you did everything else then it must have beena dodgy bolt but the torque settings you use are correct.

so if it has been a dodgy bolt what shall i do with the rest of them?
all the rest have had the 22ft pound and only one 90 degree turn,
apart from the center top bolt which took it all,
do you think i should try and give the rest the other 90 turn?
or should i whip out all the bolts and get some from the main dealers?
because im sure the quality should be better than the replacment one's from e.c.p

I presonally buy nothing from GSF\ECP unless it's identical to that from the dealer like dizzy caps etc.
If it were me, I'd ditch the rest of the bolts and get a set from the dealer. Better to be safe than sorry!

craig you have to watch some stuff from ECP, some is fine as adam says but some is rubbish. i bought new exhaust manifold gaskets for the m535 from ecp and the manifold started blowing after 500 miles, repeated the same proceedure with new gaskets, same thing. then i bought some from bmw, 2x the price but even though the shape was identical the material used and construction was totally different on the bmw ones and they have now done 8000 miles fine.
head bolts from bmw shouldn't be too expensive.
also i hate to say it but i'd use a bmw gasket too even if it's pricey . i had similar issues when rebuilding my mr2 engine with a cheap HG kit that didn't last long, a gen toyota gasket worked much better.
