As above!

Im in the process of buying another 318is which is going to need a new clutch fitting.

Ive looked in the GSF catologue and they list a clutch kit which suits both the M42 and M40.

I thought they were different due to the gearbox but can someone confirm it?

Also anyone recommend a good supplier for a replacement at a good price?

Eko, i remember having the same dillema as i've got an M42 lump enduring a rebuild at the mo, and i'll be looking to put a new clutch on it. the thing is, i'll also be using a 316i gearbox for it, which i hope will not matter too much, as i believe the size and shape of the boxes are exactly the same, its just the internals that are different...

what you do have to bear in mind is, the M42 engine has a dual mass flywheel, whereas the M40 engine only has a single mass flywheel.

this is where the difference in clutches lies, i think...

as far as where to get one, it depends what you want...

do you wanna go performance clutch, or do you just wanna stick with a standard road clutch?

if you're looking for performance, i think AP Racing do a decent clutch kit for the M42, although im not sure where you'd get it, just shop around. however, if its the standard road clutch you want, then try ECP or GSF. but remember, if you buy from a BMW dealers, you get a 2 year fitted part warranty (i think this applies to clutches aswell)

hope this helps pal...
