as title says ,ive got £1200 to spend on mods and im not sure what to do ,should i put it towards my respray in calypso red,or mods to the engine (£500-£600 would see around 330bhp) the suspension and brakes have been done already.or perhaps a new set of alloys and minor styling mods? or any other recommendations?

Engine mods, and M3 suspension, then you have slightly larger brakes, without going to silly money big brake kits.

buy another e30 shell and get it prepped for the respray and then once its all pieced together swap the engines.

dont bother with m3 stuff.. better off with a 4 pot kit from wilwood for the £Â£ handling is basically the same and you can weld the front strut pickup point onto a 4 stud strut to get the only advantage the m3 stuff has over 4..

Without a doubt spend it on the engine.

What spec is the engine just now?

no mate ,just a lowely 2.0 litre turbo 16 valve, once you get past the reliability issues its a relatively cheap engine to tune, the next stage on mine being stage3 that takes it to around 330bhp for £500-600 and onwards to 500-600 bhp for around £10000,although thats well beyond what im aiming for.im eventually wanting close to 400bhp.got to keep it semi sensible,it is a family car after all

ok sensible hat on, towards the respray. They only made 3 calypso red tourings.......
One of which lives very near me and is a 318i with full m-tech 2 body kit including the rear spoiler! what a cool base car for a project
but it has to be sprayed everywhere u can see! door shuts and engine bay!

when i get the respray done it will be the works, with all the kit and bumpers removed with all the door checks done.i would expect that to cost around £2500 at the bodyshop i use. i spoke to the mechanic today thats looking into the smoke issue,he reckons its been the valve stem oil seals, ive to phone back tomorrow.he might as well do the stage 3 while hes got it

i think the 500 uses the same head ,its just a different plenum that holds 8 injectors instead of the usual 4,and the cost of that part alone is £1000,if you can find one...eight geys is a bit beyond my engine at the moment.i take it you mean swirl pot? i have one ,its just not fitted yet.what does water alcohol injection do?

doesn't it help cool the air down on the intake to make it colder, and thus a bigger BANG!fuzzy wrote:i think the 500 uses the same head ,its just a different plenum that holds 8 injectors instead of the usual 4,and the cost of that part alone is £1000,if you can find one...eight geys is a bit beyond my engine at the moment.i take it you mean swirl pot? i have one ,its just not fitted yet.what does water alcohol injection do?

I thought it was just water injection??? Makes the charge denser by cooling it down
Some other chemistry I can't remember goes on at really high boots too so it isn't just for cooling, adds some power. Usuall only used in really silly high boost race engines though, although the Scooby and Jap crown are starting to use it to be cool.....
