Right guys, I need help
Having a load of problems with the dash on my 320i, and I want to know if anyone's had the same problems, and how they fixed them.
Speedo wasn't working, but fixed the sensor and now seems to be working fine.
Fuel gauge wanders all over the place, and is totally useless. Temperature gauge occasionally goes on crazy blips, but generally works.
Rev counter totally dead, and mpg also totally dead
All the usual warning lights work fine
Service lights act erratically - swith between yellow and red and say it needs an oil service, even though I had a BMW garage reset the service sensors a few days ago (which didn't work)
I've heard things about the batteries in the dash - does anyone know if this fits in with them going flat?
So what do I do? New dash, new batteries, or do you reckon all the wiring and sensors are knackered (seems unlikely to me that everything could go wrong separately)
Cheers, Ian

hello
try a new temp sensor (not blue one but other one) on thermo housung to sort out temp gauge. mine had this annoying problem i changed the sensor and the temp worked fine.
i had similler problems so changed the batts and it did not cure 100%
I would also suggest a good second hand cluster to replace yours they are easy to get hold of on e bay or a bmw breakers.
Hope this helps

Everything else is working fine - blower, lights, everything - just the fuel, revs, temp, service lights and mpg meter.
I suppose the best thing is to put a known good one in and see if I get all the same problems, that way I can localise the fault to some extent.
Anyone got any idea how to alter the mileage shown if I get a new dash cluster?
And finally, I might as well try changing the batteries before I pull my whole dash off - anyone know how to get to them? If not I'll just have to use the service manual.
Thanks for the help so far guys,
Ian
