clutch symptoms would be.
Clutch pedal is higher than normal.
You touch the clutch pedal and revs imediatley go up.
High revs inbetween gearchange.

Would this not be casued by poor actuation of the clutch i.e. master/slave cylinders wearing out, not the clutch plate itself. Can you elaborate?m-dtech wrote: High revs inbetween gearchange.

If the clutch is worn down enough, you will notice it will start to slip occasionally. Inbetween gear changes etc.
The pedal will also firm up quite a bit compared to a good clutch, but you may not notice if this is the only car you drive.

The clutch was down to the rivets on my 325 when I changed it (and the other bits).
It never slipped and the bite point didn't seem to be different to the new clutch, but the pedal was bloody heavy which is pretty symptomatic of knackered clutches it seems.

they get heavy because the release plate springs have no more movement left in them. After this the next stage is broken release fingers rattling round the bell-housing

i have never replaced a pressure plate when doin a bmw clutch.
the most obvious thing is the clutch becomes extremely heavy i was driving a 325i cab today and it took considerable effort to push the clutch in. also when changing quickly u may get a violent change and of course if you abuse it a little dropping the clutch at high revs say between 1st and 2nd it becomes very obvious that it is slipping. if its slipping badly enough you will get a destinct and horrible smell in the cabin possibly smoke too.
