Aleady discussed in the general chat area - it weighs 23.5kg and is there to reduce scuttle shake, which it does!

BMW installed it to alter the natural frequency of the car away from one which increased vibrations in cabs.
If you take it out you save 23.5kg but you'll get more rattles, I don't know how serious they rattles would be apart from they were serious enough for BMW to put a bloody great lump of metal in the boot.....

It's the feeling you get that the back and front of your car are stuck together with a giant spring rather than a chassis, allowing a twisting of the whole car.tonyppe wrote:what is scuttle shake?

You won't notice anything if you only drive on flat roads, as opposed to UK A and B roads which appear to be made out of corrugated tarmac and potholes.

now i think about it, it must be why my passenger/left side squats a little lower than the other. i wont bother taking it out tho. ill just stop taking out fat birds.
