IMO you should definitely get the Osram Silverstars (H1)
I've just put these in and they're well worth the extra 3 or 4 quid a bulb
Go to http://www.powerbulbs.co.uk and you get free sidelights too

Philips VisionPlus are very good also. However, as the dipped beams are designed to beam low, you may not see much improvement with the new bulbs, they wont throw the dipped beam light any further but the illuminated patch will be better.
i upgraded mine at halfords ....yes halfords they do a range of bulbs that are really destined for off rd use but as your main beam is 60w and dipped 55watts the addition of a 80 watt bulb makes a great difference you can go more powerfull but you then have to start upgrading the wiring etc and the addition of 20/25 watts makes no difference to the std wiring and the best bit.....the uprated bulbs are cheaper than the standard ones they even do a h4 bulb that is 130watts main beam and 100watts dipped ....a veritable retina roaster!!!...and cost about 8 pounds unlike the Ԛ£25 bulbs some sports dealers try and sell you
Better not to go for higher wattage bulbs in case you damage the wiring as gazza says. Bulbs like the Philips Vision Plus and the Osram bulbs provide better illumination at the standard wattage, but there are some cheap bulbs on the market that are just a higher wattage and these should be avoided.
