Most car stereos there are 2 mains, 1 is wired up to the ignition and the other is wired up directly to the battery.
The ignition wire is for powering up the stereo when you start the car, so you can't leave the stereo on while the car is off, Otherwise the battery will die.
The main that is connected directly to the battery is for the memory of the stereo ( EQ setup, radio stations etc)
However you can have both mains connected to either directly to the battery or directly to the ignition, but if both wires are connected to the ignition you will keep loosing you memory. Directly to the battery will keep all the settings on the stereo.
I hope this clarifies things!

the stereo always keeps it memory while the car is switched off it only looses it if i turn the ignition 1 click and then start it from there if i put the key in and turn it all the way it is fine
