For some reason people only seem to sell brighter headlamps, the really dim ones haven't seem to catch on so fast.
You could wire them in series to get them a bit dimmer, but you might crash in the dark. I remember motorbikes went through a phase of purple tinted headlamps, most of these however seemed to end up embedded in the side of peoples cars, as it was a bit tricky to work out which way they were going. Maybe not so cool.
If you want to be cool _and_ see where you are going after dusk then a setup like the old Dodge Charger would be the way to go. You'd need to set the lamps back about 20mm and carry the grille all the way to the edge.
It might not look very nice though - I quite like the regular double-round look that defines the car...

Smoked lights as in the ones MrLee did are the way to go. Easy(ish) to DIY and cheap to do.
I havent got round to doing the mainbeams yet, but it gives a good idea of 'before and after'...

I didnt do those, I got them off a guy on here to replace the ones Id lent to a mate - who then smashed his car upbrightyboy wrote:How did you go about those sidelights?
They are done the same way as MrLees write up - because they are projector lights, the silver insert of the light can be painted without affecting the performance of the light. The mainbeams cant be painted because its basically a mirror, so if you paint it the light will not shine forwards.
These are done by inserting a X piece thats painted black which then reflects onto the mirror, making it appear black (or smoked) but still letting 100% of the bulbs light shine forward - all very clever

as an alternaltive for smoking the main beam i was going to try to use some fine metal mesh (the kind used for fly screens etc) paint that black and stick that onto the main beam glass (on the inside), I am sure it would not reduce the amount of light being projected forward, but i am yet to give it a go. was planning on smoking the fogs in this manner but couldn't get the damn things open!
