As some of you may know my touring needs a gearbox as it's stuck in reverse at the moment. I have been offered a dogleg box which has come off a 2.5 M20 - so it fits the M20, but I can't work out what car it's come off to find out what ratios it has. As far as I know only the M3s had a dogleg box. Or the 635's did but that's an M30 so won't fit an M20??
Any ideas??

I seem to remember the 2002 having a rare dogleg close ratio option, but that's irrelevant. as it's an M10

early 323i"s had the option of the box. fairly rare but not worth much.

not as hard wearing as the normal H gate getrag, and you will need a suitable diff to go with it. your current 3.9 diff will be usless. so if you dont intend to get an expensive 3.25 lsd from an m3, you maybe wasting your time.

Wot sort of ratio is it then, cos the guy mumbled somthing about 2nd and 3rd being different. He's got a Diff that's come out of the E30 it was in too.

1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th, are lower than the normal box. 5th is the direct drive gear, as per 4th gear on the normal box.

if he has a diff for it then you will have to purchase that too pending it is the 3.25 ratio.

your 3.9 diff will make it do about 110mph in 5th on the limiter.

HI mate, just wondered if you actually need a new gearbox just cos its stuck in gear. My box was stuck in reverse the other week as it was what i left it in when i switched off the ignition. I replaced the slave cylinder and jobs a good'un as they say.

Just a thought.

Na mate, it's stuck in reverse and the gear stick is in neutral and won't deselect reverse what ever I do. Apparently the deselector pin can break

Jonb is correct - the 323i had the dogleg box with a 3.25 final diff. I have one.

Just to share, my LSD 3.25 ratio came off a E34....just change the rear mounting plate and it's then a straight bolt on.

Cheers mate, but I think I'll just stick with the box I've already sourced. My touring has got an LSD already which is nice and quiet so I'd rather not have to change.
