I know the police will probably pull you over for the smallest of things - but where 'legally' do i stand with driving with tape on my lights?

Reason for it being on, a: i personally like the look of it for the track schlag look, b: its a paint to keep having to put on, take off for trackdays.

I'm sure I can't be "done" so to speak, as people with "badboy bonnets" which cover up alot more of the lights than the bit of tape does.

Anyone know for sure?

Would it pass an MOT with the lights taped up?

I dont think it's illegal, however not all coppers are the same. Some might just think ok....... others might think it could be a hazard and ask you to take it off. I wouldn't of thought any cop would take it further than telling you to take it off.

Right, I ask my good friend who is a police man....Just a normal Beat Bobbie not traffic. I showed him the photo and asked him if its legal!
Here is his reply:
My Policeman Friend wrote:To be brutely honest, I dont actually have a clue! Never ever come across anything like this!! The headlight aspect here, it may be illegal as it covers up quite a bit of the light but not actually sure to be honest!! I think even some traffic officers may have difficulty if faced with this (for the first time!) sorry I cant be much help . . . suppose best to be on the safe side and take them off
So theres a policemans view!

How about putting a band of tape across the top and bottom of the lights instead, that way you'll not obscure the centre of the beam, and its less noticable, so you're less likely to be pulled

Might be worth a try, see what its like?
Cheers,
Robin

for the sake of 20 seconds with a roll of electrician's tape when you get to the venue it don't seem worth the hassle of being pulled for the touring car slaag look on the lights and the copper finding something else he's not happy with

Remember folks, when we start seeing thousands of chavs in novas driving with tape on their lights... we've got slowlysideways to blame :)
