Well we gave up on trying to separate the fan and pump to get the pulley up so i took it down to Wales to my dad who has been a mechanice for over 30 years...

took him over an hour to get it off. ended up having to use brute force to bash the hell out of it! (the old pump not the car)

all parst were spinning so he welded bolts into the pump then it finally stopped spinning so he could get the nut off!

Right now is time to get this thing back on the road!

p.s I am coming back from wales on the back of the big truck with the flashing lights! my 318i fuel pump is knackered!

Sorry to hear about the problems, I've only just managed to finish my water pump - I couldn't get it to seal properly and ended up taking the bonnet of to gain better access. This made it ten times easier but the bloody wind blew it over and it now has a nice little dent in

I've done headgaskets, replace rockers, timing belts plus much more on the M20 engine and have to say the water pump was the biggest pain in the arse :?

Fuel pump replacement is very quick and easy to do (if you've got a replacement) Hope you get it sorted soon dobbie :thumb:

i have to agree m20 water pumps are a pain i changed mine when i had the engine out to re-build it charl i used a light skim of silicone sealer on both surfaces and still used the gasket i put it all back together and i had no leaks nowhere how many times did you take it off to seal it

I ended up getting it sealed properly on the third gasket using Hylomar blue sealant on both surfaces. The first two gaskets got damaged trying to line the holes up while pushing against the cam tensioner spring. turbo-brown suggested removing the spring, fitting the pump then refitting the spring and this worked :D

Water pump's not hard if you combine it with a cambelt change.

just arrived home on a trailer. not sure it itd the pump that has gone, it wont go above 2k revs, is extremely sluggish and the pump is very noisy.

fuel pump is £108.00 from gsfcarparts or £69.99+£20.00 surcharge from eurocarparts, so kinda hoping its a blocked line or somethin!
