My 320i is going into the garage next week to have the prop donut replaced and what my mechanic thinks is a front camshaft oil leak sorted.
While the front covers are off I'm going to get the belt and tensioner replaced and the tappets etc adjusted, new plugs, filters etc. etc.

Any suggestions as to what else could be done, as preventative maintenance, while the rocker cover etc. is off?

Don't spend TOO much guys, parts bill so far is around £100!!!

water pump too if you're getting the belt done

cap n rotor arm but that's stuff you can do piece of piss so don't pay for labour on stuff like that being done

Make sure you do the water pump when doing cambelt & tensioner as these are always prone to fail or leak

good luck mate

Definitely replace water pump and coolant.
I think rear/centre exhaust has to come off anyway to replace prop donut for access when using an air gun. So if rear or centre exhaust, and/or its mountings, are rusty might be worth considering changing as required.

I did exactly the same job last week and the five year old eurocarparts exhaust was showing compromising rust, particularly one mounting strap was rotten. An old coat hanger is doing a better job of holding it up now but I would have rather spent the time (if not the money) replacing with new parts.

(On a Saturday afternoon there was no choice with the motor trade shut at this time in general in the area.)

If the rubber prop donut is no longer serviceable, possibly some of the other rubber sections, say engine mounts for example, or rubber pipes in or near the engine bay for fuel, brakes or coolant pipes are showing signs of deteriorating, better to replace before they fail when the rubber breaks down.

Replacing cap and rotor arm probably a good idea while I wouldn't imagine this would incur anymore labour charge as these are being romve and refitted for the camshaft oil seal replacement.

Hope it all goes chearfully and cheaply.
