hi
i had a prop donut done a few days before xmas. that very night i had some mad screaming coming from the car when i was moving. the faster i went the higher pitched it got until it went all together. also the longer i drove the quieter it got.
ive been going through process of illimination, costing me quite a bit. and its so ebarrasing when u got ppl in the motor.
now its started to knock again under acceleration. the thing is brand new!!!
so im going to have to get another. any ideas where to get one that aint made of butter? its because of crappy parts that the car keeps going in again. but i get fobbed off im sure. they say 'they are just the same as a BM part'
i say bollox lol

I replaced mine at the weekend and it wasn't too expensive from the dealers. About £40ish I think. (I also replaced gearbox mountings and selector shaft oil seal and some other toys...so my bill was £150 in all. Well worth it though.)
One thing I was surprised about was that the new doughnut and rubber bits made a massive improvement to the way the car drove. Especially acceleration. The flexibility of the old one had obviously become excessive (it was a bit like it had been chewed) and the replacement has made driving smoothly much easier. Also on deceleration the engine braking is more effective.
I had just got used to the car juddering and now it drives better than ever in the five years I've had it.
With relatively cheap parts like this it has to be worth going to the dealers just to save on the kind of inconvenience you've had, that is assuming it is the prop doughnut that is causing you this problem.
I hope it gets sorted for you.

well the reason it went before is cos there was some idiot in front of me turning left, and hardly moving for no reason. i got the hump and spotted it in 2nd. the back shocks are a bit iffy, and it tramped a bit. then the prop donut went.
got a new one, and now its doing the same thing. fair enough i have been sideways a few times, and other stuff, but i thought it would last longer than a couple of months.

Can you tell me what symptoms you had which led to you realising the donut had gone.
I get a nasty juddr if my car is nice and warm and stuck in traffic. When I try to pull away in first, the judder starts. If I either slip the clutch a little and featehr some revs, or get it into second quickly, it seems ok.
Seems to only occur if the car has been running for some time and I'm then stuck in traffic.
Is this the symptom or is this the clutch plates wearing? Clutch doesn't slip otherwise.
cheers

well whenever i was accelerating in mine i got a vibration, if i was holding it steady it would fell okish. if i tried to accelerate hard then you would hear and feel a knocking. bit hard to describe.
not sure about what yours could be, if its not the prop.
*depo headlights just arrived ;) *

This is a common problem on E30s isn't it? I thought it was clutch related, and nothing to get overly worried about. Let's just say it gives the car character. An irritating, loud, banging, MY CAR'S GETTING FUCKED sort of character.blatantarrogance wrote:Can you tell me what symptoms you had which led to you realising the donut had gone.

My wife's E36 Coupe does this too so it's not just an E30 issue. I think it's clutch related but I'd like to know what the cause is for sure.
Taylor.
