knocking rear end

just replaced the rear subframe bushes in my 318is,old ones did,nt look to bad but replaced them anyway,problem is am still getting a knocking noise mainly from drivers side when corning hard, or in a straight line over a bumpy road any one got any ideas

I've had previous experience of the backbox knocking against the bottom of the n/s rear shock. The only way I realised this was when I got a new backbox fitted and the knocking stopped. Obviosly the original backbox was fitted incorrectly. When the car was jacked up there wasn't any contact between the two so I never thought about it as a possible cause before. hth.

very likely as there is not a lot of clearance between the subframe and the pipe. i would also check to see that the half shaft boots don't have any tears. if they do it could be a bad shaft jointTaylor325i wrote:I've had previous experience of the backbox knocking against the bottom of the n/s rear shock.
