Revs while driving

hi guys,

when i drive my car around, just normal cruising and begin stopping, the revs sit at about 1000rpm, only when i come to a complete stop does it come down to 750rpm. is this normal? if i am driving and hold my clutch in, shouldn't the revs drop to normal idle speed? cos mine will go down to 1000rpm, and only drop when the car is stopped.
dunno of this makes any sense... so the car sounds like its cold all the time!

Not sure if the E30 was fitted with it, but some cars have an electronic control that holds the RPM slightly high until the car comes to a complete halt. It's all in the ECU and something to do with making sure the car accelerates smoothly when driving slowly in traffic.

I'm sure someone who understands it will be able to explain better than me

Might be a sticking ICV. Rover V8's are notorious for revving up into the 3,000rpm range at the lights. This is caused by carbon build up behind the cone seat on the stepper motor or ICV (idle control valve).
The BMW item is more reliable.

was the t-stat, car thought it was cold so it kept the revs up to prevent stalling... new t-stat, problem solved
