i'am gonna have a go at fitting an OBC to the IS
but before i do has anyone done it before who could give me any advise? tips? is it the same guide as fitting it to a 6pot car? i presume nothing will be different other than the chip thing in the back of the clusters.

i got a 13 button obc as well i want to fit to my IS, i took the wiring loom and the indictor stalk, the gong whatever that is,, basically anythging that was linked up i took it,
so hopefully this should work??? i dont see why it shouldnt,,, though briefly spoke to my cousin and he said he tried it back in the day on his 318i, and said not all the functions work, like range and stuff as the appropriate sensors are not there????
anyone clarify??

found it, it was in the E30 restoration bible not a mag, the book says that the e30zone tested the OBC retro fit in 2004 and all the functions worked including the MPG and other fuel reading functions and didn't state any differences for fitting it to 4pot rather than a 6pot! just woundered who try it?
did all 6pots come with OBC's???
did all 6pots come with OBC's???

dont think so, though wouldnt surprise me as i got it out of a council edition 325 like proper standard,,,
the one thing i do wonder though is how to fit a check control unit to a 4 pot? i had a deep dig, and looks like the whole wiring loom needs to be replaced, looks very intense indeed... might just settle for the obc.
dude,, u got a checklist for the obc???
ive got the indicator stalk,
black box ecu thing,,,
wiring loom,
obc itself,
anything i missed??
what is the "gong"? have i missed this??

yup
you need
Main obc unit
Wiring loom
Relay contol module( above ecu)
(with the above bits the OBC will function but with out side temp) acording to the book
Out side temp sensor
OBC horn
temp sensor, OBC horn looms
Gong
Stalk
so the book says!
hope you got it all!!
theres a guide to fitting the Obc in the articals/ tech section at the top.
Al let you know how i get on! might have ago this week end if it gets here oin time.

Just follow the guide on the zone, its dead easy to fit if a little fiddly at times.
Fuel readings won't be accurate due to the 325i coding plug on the back of the OBC, but you will get a reading. Only thing i found was not to bother connecting the plug for the code function to the control panel behind the glovebox, did this at first and it allowd the car to start but wouldn't turn off!

Can you change the plug? are they the same as the one in the back of the speedo cluster?

It'll plug straight into the back of the speedo, thats not what the problem is they are the same on all E30's. It's the white coding chip on the back of the actual OBC unit, this needs to be changed for one made for a 318iS which is a dealer only job and costs £40 to £50 so not really worth it IMO.

It tells you when the temp has dropped to 36degress F or less and when you have exceded the speed limit you have set on the OBC.

cheers
all have alook later i didn't even realise that little button was a button
also me gong doesn't work one the speed limit feature but it does on the temperature feature?
any ideas?
the stalk also doesn't work but i think this is due to the kit being remove from a car in the scrapper where the its probably been open to the eliments, has any one taken one apart?
Cheers for the help Kedge
