just thinking, what exhaust plans do you have for turbo conversions?
do u have single or twin turbo? as there is not a lot of room for large single pipe on lowered cars, do you run it twin? even if its single turbo?
do you modify the underneath of the motor?
just a thought as i know from experience, when you split a single pipe into two, the turbulance gives power loss, and the effect on turbo cars is even greater.
i just cant imagine getting 3" single bore underneath lol

Most people run single turbos, think Toby_Unna is running a single 3" (might be wrong though)
I'm running a twin turbo setup with a twin 2" exhaust.

BTW Ant's car has a single downpipe mated to a standard-sized twin pipe system, and it runs beautifully.

I have a single 3inch v band flange which splits into two 1&7/8's pipes that pretty much run as the stock system did, infact centre box is std and rear box is a scorpion.
There was no room for a 3 or 4inch single down past the manifold and steering linkage so the split was kept as it is the best solution at the momment.
I have cheated a little by running an external wastegate dump pipe, so I doubt I'll ever have too many issues with the exhaust now.
One thing to note with screamer pipes is they are the very very loud

A lot of guys in over in the US run single 3" pipes on both turbo and S50 engined E30s for the full system.
Some are track cars so ground clearance isnt an issue, but even the guys with road cars said it wasnt that big a deal - mind you, they dont have our crap roads to deal with
I was recommended a single 3" for my S50 conversion, but might look into having 3" oval pipe work to help with ground clearance.

They dont have the steering shaft in the way tho, I looked at some 3" pipe today at work and its huge for an exhaust I couldnt imagine anything under 350 hp needing it, im going to try it tho

3" pipe is huge. plus where i used to work, we mainly worked with 1.5mm thick rather than 2mm normal stuff. the mandrel bends were 1.5mm cos 2mm would just crush and not bend.
if you hit a warm exhaust that thin, its just like tin foil.
the seperate wastegate idea sounds a good plan. where does it come out? at the front of the car? or do you run another pipe alongside the main one?

My screamer pipe exits down by the sump, near the fan end of the block.tonyppe wrote:3" pipe is huge. plus where i used to work, we mainly worked with 1.5mm thick rather than 2mm normal stuff. the mandrel bends were 1.5mm cos 2mm would just crush and not bend.

The wastegate is postioned below and to the right of the coil and it's a tight fit to be fair, getting it on or off is a mission and a half!!
Not done more than 10miles as it is so no feedback based on any length of use, but when it's open it sounds like the biggest supercharger you have ever heard

Yes, I did drill another one a bit further down but it ended up too large for the brake line copper pipe we used in the end. I've used up all the lines from the manifold so needed another. I plan to mod the small trianglular plate on the back of the inlet manifold to allow two more, it's the ideal place really.gcorky wrote:fozzy ,u tapped a boost line in where the tag was??
