running temp query

I've had my car 2 years and normally the engine warms up quite quickly and the temp gauge stays just ever so slightly under the half way mark. However recently it seems to be taking longer to warm up and the needle on the temp gauge is just over the quarter mark even after a long drive. It also seems to be using a little water as well. Any suggestions? Cheers

All cars in the UK have taken longer to warm up in the last week or so, because they've been starting off from a lower temperature than normal, but I think you could use a new thermostat.
