Thought I would introduce myself....

My name is Rob, Im from Newbury near Reading and I have just bought a '91 316i for £400 in Halfords car park! :D

I own a '93 MR2 GTi-16 and have had to start commuting to work which is pushing the miles up so I have been looking for a commuter car and stumbled across the BM.

In short, she has 127K on the clock, electric windows, sunroof, mirrors (all working now), Bottletop alloys, Calypso metallic red in colour. Paid £435 with a years MOT.

Shes in pretty good shape apart from 1 thing:

Idle is POOR and shes running rich.

Could anyone point me in the right direction to sort the idling please?

I didnt expect the insurance to be so reasonable so I bought her as she looked good and Im setting about restoring her to her former glory.

Any help much appreciated! Thanks.

Hello mate, welcome to the Zone :thumb:

Sound's like your temperature sender has gone up the wall :?
It's a blue plug in the block that's send's info to the ecu and if it's mucking you about then it will over fuel thus giving a bad idle. Cheap as chip's to by from ECP but i bit fiddly to fit :D

Thanks for the really warm welcome guys - thats really kind.

I love the MR2 to bits so shes staying but I am also a big fan of cars that have a certain presence about their look and the E30 is certainly one of those. The trouble with me is that I cant just 'run' a car I have to have it tip top and usually mildly modded.

I have had a lot of fun in the past week cleaning her up so its a great project car.

Thanks for the info on the blue plug - I will try that tomorrow - will probably go to GSF.

With any luck I will have saved an E30 from the scrappy as I cant imagine many would have bought her like this before someone decided to trash it.

Will post pics soon.

Oh yeah, Jonbuoy - whats with the Ford engine bit? The 90's MR2 / Celica had a Yamaha 3S-GE block - still being used on Lexus IS200's.
